I fired CCI Stinger, Remington High Velocity Golden Bullet, and Remington Hi-Speed Thunderbolt in the same double-action only derringer. I get some misfires with the Stingers but not with the other two. Has anyone else experienced this with Stingers?

No, in fact CCI Mini-Mags and Stingers are the only two rimfires that I've shot more than a thousand rounds of and still never had one misfire with them (I've probably shot 5-10K Stingers out of four different rimfires- a Marlin 60, Ruger 10/22, Remington 581 and Ruger MkII- most of them out of the Marlin).

There can be significant variations in dimensions of 22 ammo and guns .If one type of ammo doesn't work in your gun use something else. I had a funny experience ,I was having malfunctions with my 22 pistol. Next to me on the firing line another shooter was having problems also. We were using different guns and different ammo. Both of us were frustrated , so I suggested we exchange ammo - no more problems !! Checking on an optical comparator there were major differences in the cases in the rim and the rim radius.

Was this by any chance a High Standard Double Derringer?

If so were the misfires in only the top barrel or with both?
The HS has a lighter hammer strike on the upper barrel than the lower.

A new mainspring from Numrich should cure it. The mainspring for the magnum model will also fit and is a little stronger.

Remington is some of the only rimfire ammo I've ever had misfire. CCI is tops in my book--at least among the usual store-shelf stuff.

Well at one time I had a HS 22 magnum derringer, the one that had a wallet , yep the one you could shoot through the wallet.

I shot it from time to time , probably never more that a dozen rds at a time. It broke twice. Ok as BluesBear said , light hammer strikes and the mainspring replaced.

I told the fella that wanted it , I was not comfortable with a gun that was not reliable to me. He wanted it anyway. I warned him about the problem in front of the gunsmith. Gunsmith concurred, the deal was done.

For .22lr...

Personally I have found the Win X22lr to be the most reliable ammo and across the board "accurate" in a variety of guns. Granted this ammo is readily available here. CCI Mini Mags and Stingers have been also ( when I find it). I don't do Rem ammo , rare if at all. Even tho an hour from me is a Rem ammo plant. Rem doesn't make their 22 ammo. As a kid I used the Rem "speedmaster" ammo and it was great...something happened.

Federal of all things in that 550 bulk pak has surprised me.

We buy and shoot a lot of the Rem SV and I agree that the % of duds is very high, probably 2-3% or more.

However, CCI is the only RF ammo I've ever had damage a gun, and it's happened twice. Literally blew up a Savage bolt action rifle and blew the magazine out of a Winchester 52.:cuss:

sm I also had one of the wallets for my HS. I bought it back in 1978 from an ad in Police Product News. I still have the Deringer but the grips and the wallet disappeared during my big move 5 years ago.

I'd sure like to find another one.

sm,

I agree with you about Winchester ammunition. When I was carrying a tiny pocket pistol, it was loaded with Winchester Super X. In a variety of guns, I've found it to be the most reliable. I just sold my derringer to a co-worker. I will give him some Thunderbolts and recommend he pick up some Winchesters for self defense. Most people can't say enough good things about CCI. I can't because it has given me the most misfires in the guns I've used it in.

BluesBear is gonna hate me...

Well you big dummy why didn't you holler about a year ago? Oh yeah I had a set of grips and the wallet. I had an extra set from all those years ago.
Dang it , I'd been more than happy to have fixed you up.
I'll keep my eyes and ears open. Since "technically" a HS is "not" to fit in a wallet.
Old pawn shops and dealers. I will holler if a set pops up.

" missed it by that much"

That's the story of my life sm, a day late and a dollar short.

It all started years ago when my ship came in while I was waiting at the train station. I think that was the day after opportunity knocked but I was next door borrowing a cup of sugar.

I always use CCI, particularly stingers, when I want a .22 that I'm pretty sure will fire, FWIW.
