no. I own all of those kinds of 22 ammo and more. Even a 22 bb cap is louder than an air rifle.

Your perception seems to be distinctly different than almost everyone elses, including many dozens I have read on other sites over the years. In my rifles, the CBs and Aguillas ARE quieter than my air rifles. After the early posts today, I went out to my patio to verify. Interesting your experience is so much different. I wonder why. Maybe it depends on where we are shooting them (inside, open fields, closed-in woods). Most of my shooting is on my home ranges, which are rather closed in with trees.

I guess thoughtful disagreement and sharing different perceptions is healthly. Have a good evening.

I've been a member on various shooting boards for at least 12yrs. Including a long-standing 9yr membership on RimfireCentral. I've never heard anyone argue that CB's are louder than an airgun before. Welcome to Remo's world.

Another vote for the Henry - 21 rounds of short is a lot of fun!

As far as measuring the SPL of the rifle on your iPhone, it probably won't work very well. The integration window on most SPL software/meters is much too long to catch the peak. You'd need to make a digital recording of the sound, then go back in and post-process to determine the effective SPL, or use a higher-end acoustic analyzer.

The marlin 981T and the Henry are pretty appealing. I 'm gonna see which one I can get for the lowest price.

Also look at the Remington 581s/541 series... You can load up shorts, long or long rifle with out any problem. If I'm after quiet the cci cb long's are quieter than many springer type air rifles and do an effective job with proper bullet placement from my 581s.

you want quiet get a CZ 452 Ultra Lux. It won't cycle Shorts but with its 28.6" barrel, CB Longs are deathly quiet.
