223 Threaded Heavy Barrel Rifle Options

I had been wanting to play with a .223 turn bolt for the last year or so too and Cabela’s had the 12 VF (26” HB) for $300 after rebate, so I ordered one and had a chance to shoot it last weekend with my 3-gun ammo (55 gn FMJ pushed by TAC). My buddy put the old can of sweet onion beans too close to the target stand, so ignore the stains but this was the first 10 shot, 100 yard group from it on a cold and windy day.

I’ll thread it by the weekend to play with it some more but I wanted a baseline.

I have expected more and gotten less out of more expensive rifles, looks like a good starting point.

And I did. I have the 700 5R on the way. I just love the way that gun looks. I have owned a number of 700s through the years and they never have disappointed. It has a $75 rebate, so that will bring it home right at $775.
I'm sure you'll be happy with it. Let us know how it shoots. BTW, I own several Rem 700s ( .270, .243 two of them, and a .223) and have never been disappointed. I've killed many critters with every one of them. Have changed triggers in them though.

I can be a picky bastard, but it takes a really bad trigger to put me off. If it breaks clean, it can have a pretty heavy pull and still be okay with me. It will be a bit before I even shoot it. I have a berm pushed up on my 10 acres, but during hunting season I don't go hot on the range. I'll try to remember to fill you in. I am confident it'll shoot!

Not being tolerant of heavy triggers, I generally like triggers to be around 2 lbs, give or take a few ounces. My .243s have Timney triggers and my .223 has a Shilen. My .270 is an older model ADL and has a good enough trigger in it. Good triggers have improved my accuracy and decreased my frustration. Have fun with the new toy.

That looks like a crime scene

Looks even goofier with a can on it. Long beside a smoke pole.

I guess it it doesn’t shoot good I could always shoot pool with it..,

I got the rifle in. I scoped it with a Riton 4-16x50 in Talley Lightweights. It'll be after deer season before I go hot on my personal range. I like the way it looks, feels and balances. This stock is very thick through the wrist.
