228 re make? sig m11a1

I'd be willing to bet they're making them on P229 frames for parts commonality and ease of manufacture.

NO it is not the same as the P228.

IMO it appears to be a "new style" P229 without a rail as the slide is milled stainless steel. I would be extremely surprised if it does not have the new style long extractor also.

Nope it isn't the same as the old 228...it isn't even like the old 9mm 229, which was really a 228 with a stainless slide.

What this is, is a stainless slide contoured like the old 228 atop a .40/357SIG frame, but with the rail removed

some of us would argue the "product improvement package" part but it is new...

So is this M 11-A1 with the stainless steel slide being sent to the military, or will the US Military keep getting Sig 228's with carbon steel folded slides?

from what I have read they will still only accept the m11, not the m11a1. I'd imagine they would have to have a new contract in place to change the model.

Question- What material is the frame on the M11 A-1 made of? The pic on The Firearm Blog makes it look like polymer to me, but I don't believe the gov. is buying polymer pistols (yet). So, is it alloy, or steel?
I have never owned a Sig, and don't know a lot about them, but I have been looking seriously at either the P239 or the SP2022 for a concealed-carry piece.

So the "new" Sig M11a1 is actually more like the "old" CZ99,CZ999,TZ99, and Golan.

I like to think of it as like the "old", original 9mm P229. The CZ99 appears to be modeled after the old P226 - both have alloy frames with stamped carbon steel slides.

My TZ99 has a solid stainless slide with an alloy frame. The solid milled slide, along with combining the de-cocker with the slide release, were some of the modifications or "improvements", to the Sig design by "the other CZ", Crvena Zastava.
