I wanted to go shooting a little after work today.Stopped by my neighborhood Walmart and the only inexpensive 22lr ammo they had was Remington Thunderbolt 22lr leadheads.$1.99 for 50.Well I purchased 3 boxes and headed to the feild.Pull out my old trusty Marlin 99 from behing the seat of the truck loaded up and pow---first shot a hit. Then click.Well there was a FTF.The ammo was terrible in my gun.The sound of the rounds was very inconsistant.FTF every other round.I even had one split the casing.Grabbed my box of CCI Mini Mags fro mthe glove box and not one single problem.Very accurate at 75 yards as always.Anyone else ever run into something like this.Sure wish I could find some Federal bulk. They always seemed to function good with only a fer misfires out of a brick. Will I need to shoot this ammo in my bolt action?

rem. rimfire ammo is junk. ever notice how every shot is a differnt loudness level? and same here i only like federal ive had maybe 1 misfire out of 5,000 rounds of the walmart cheap stuff in the last 5 years.

i found a "good deal" on that thunderbolt crap a few years ago and bought like, 10,000 rnds of it online. the ONLY gun it works in is a henry levergun. will not feed/function in ANY of my semi-autos

Probably.

I tend to stay away from Remington .22LR ammo myself except for their target loads.

I, however, did get a bad lot of Federal one time, so no manufacturer is immune from defects.

I've lately mainly been shooting Minimags and Winchester SuperSpeed from Walmart, because that's what I can get. I also tried a brick of Winchester Wildcat, which also worked well, but did have a few "loose" bullets in the brick. Keep in mind I've mainly been shooting my new favorite rifle, my CZ-452 that I got this year, but I did break out my 10/22 last week at the range.

I like to have a manual action .22 for those troublesome ammunition types that don't work well in a semi-auto, such as truncated rounds...

Of course, I have found rounds (not standard .22LR rounds) that won't feed in my CZ-452. It will not feed CB Longs for some reason.

Revolvers and single shot rifles are also great for disposing of troublesome rounds...

Man thunderbolt thats all i shoot. When i am plinking. Its dirty dirty dirty. but i have better success with it than i do with the value packs. CCi is the holly grail of 22s but it aint cheap. I wonder if your REM T-B got damp some how in its trip to wally world. I have 5 22s & have very little to no prob with it or the 50 count Federal 40grain solids. I wont buy the value packs no more. They are problem ma tic. I guess im just lucky!! My REM 597 loves the Thunder bolt. I do notice the difference in how loud the bangs are. some R weaker than others. but for $1.99 I cant complain yet.
PS i love to bitch just cant yet.

That's Remington rimfire ammo. Actually, I haven't had good luck with much anything Remington.

I like Winchester bulk ammo the best. The Federal shoots ok but jams in my gun every few shots. I also like CCI ammo but for bulk packs Winchester seems to work the best for me.

I have had decent luck with Remington Golden Bullet bulk but man these Thunderbolts are junk.Hope to see some better ammo on shelves soon.

remmy ammo is the absolute worstest... worst loads, worst crimps, worst brass, worst in stinkyness, worst of the dirtiest, you name it. If I were the stinky king, and had to pick something stinkier than even I , it would be remmy ammo.
The only exceptions to this, are the mach 2 ammo, and the 22 in orange box, and yellow box, which are all made by Eley anyway, and so it is so much better.

I have shot about 1500 Remington Golden Bullet HPs in my 10/22 and they are fine. I get an occasional stove pipe, but 22s are 22s.

Of course a 10/22 will eat anything and love it.

I really have not been impressed with Thunderbolt. I have a semiauto that is finicky about the bullet profile - so it's round nose only. I will have to say that it feeds better than some. I really can't wait to get through the rest of this brick. It's not uncommon to have 1-2 FTF's per 50 rounds.

i've never had problems with remington ammo. then again, i've only run about 3 bricks through my 10/22, which eats anything.. maybe i'm just lucky.

I have an old 22 single shot that will shoot those poor rounds that other guns have problems with.

I also had bad luck with the dirty, inconsistent thunderbolts. They probably make them from the floor sweepings of the "real ammo" part of the plant because my 7mm-08 loves the Remington Core-Lokt flavor. I don't remember if we bought a brick or a case of t-bolts years back but will not purchase again. CCI mini-mags work great but are more spendy. Federal works pretty good too and only a little less accurate.

Rimfires are picky about ammo, and what they're picky about varies from gun to gun. My son's Remington autoloader does well on Remington golden bullets but won't fire Winchester white box ammo; it doesn't seem to have enough power to make it cycle. Your mileage may vary.

I've had every conceivable kind of ammo-related failure with Remington 22LR. Especially in Remington rifles. This has been a problem that's been ongoing for years. I'll never buy it again.

Having said that, I like their centerfire rifle and handgun ammo a lot. And their 22WMR is good stuff.

.22 ammo

I have a CZ452 and a TC contender rifle. Both are very accurate for hunting rifles. CCI Sub Sonic HP, Wolf target, and Rem .22 short HPs and CCI CB caps are my favorites.

Remington has made inconsistent from lot to lot junk 22 rimfire ammo for decades. There centerfire and shotgun stuff is fine but their 22 RF stuff has been terrible for so long it amazes me people keep right on buying it.

I agree- again, I like their centerfire stuff just fine, but you gotta recognize if you are going to buy their rimfire stuff, you are about to board the filthy train.

I've had luck w/ wildcat, federal amercian eagle, rem.golden in bulk. The best part about buying quality firearms is more than not they accept most ammo. The Buckmark pistol and rifle i've got will honestly fire any and all ammo reliably. I've also noticed that all 10 of my rimfires actually prefer standard velocity rounds,at the range i'm shooting at anyway. Now thats lucky.

I think you'll find a whole lot of people with really bad experience with Remington .22 ammo or at least with the cheap stuff. Strangely though some people report it being the best thing they can shoot in their particular gun. I have a hard time picturing that but I guess they know what they're doing. I've just had nothing but bad experiences with Remington rimfire ammo all the way back to the 1970's when it was actually pretty good. Other Remington ammo is great though.

This just goes to prove that each .22 has different ammo preferences. I have a model 60 that just loves it. It's one of the few .22 that I have to clean regularly.

I have 4 .22's and the guy I shoot with has 5 or 6 and every single one of these guns seem to hate Remington ammo.

You need more .22s. I have twelve and this is the only one that shoots Remington bulk ammo accurately (shows a marked preference for it).

It makes me wonder if they have different plants producing the stuff and I get the junk while you get decent ammo. Something is very strange about this because it's just horrible ammo IMO. What part of the country do you live in? Maybe they do have different plants producing it.

I live in Missouri. The Remington bulk ammo (regular Wal-Mart bulk pac) has only two or the failures to fire per 550 box in any of my guns, but only one seems to shoot really better using it. I stay away from it primarily because it is so dirty. Thunderbolts have different powder loads in my experience. Most of my Rifles prefer Federals, and I haven't been able to obtain any Winchester ammo since November.
