well, i will have mine with potatoes and okra please!!

(my crow because i would have said 500yds with a 22lr is maybe a 1 in 50 proposition)

i wonder if my 10/22 would allow consistent hits @ 500 with the right ammo? its a really accurate rifle, ive just never considered even trying that.

Pretty good for a plain 'ole .22. Next time somebody in the "Hunting" forum says you can't hit a deer at 400 yards with a high powered rifle, remember this thread.

If guys would spend as much time shooting as typing, they'd see what's possible. I see too many guys set up cans at 20 yards and blast away with a semi-auto. Dumping the mag as fast as possible seems much more important than accuracy.

This here's some good shootin'.

I shot some rounds threw the Chronograph 5 shot average was 1388 fps aguila interceptor

I have a bit under 500 to play with here, over a valley, so that makes for some interesting winds too lol.

I have pretty good luck with the wolf match stuff, 40g sub sonics out to around 470. There is some drop for sure lol. I have a 40 minute base, but I wind up maxing the scope, using my mil dots, and zooming the scope to half power for extra hold over. I used to have a fixed 10 SWFA SS on there that had an awesome adjustment range, but I like the mil to mil I have now a bit better. Serious hang time after you break the shot lol. From my 100 yard zero I am lookin at just over 26 mils (almost 440 inches) of elevation to 470 yards with my usual ammo.

That aguila stuff is pretty consistent most of the time, especially for what it costs. I shoot a lot of the 40 grain subs and it is very consistent. Clayne, have you tried using subs for the longer range stuff? For me it has been more consistent just about every time. Just a thought, but I have not tried the same stuff you are using. I had decent experience with the federal HV match, but not nearly as good as the wolf at distance.

Good shooting by the way.

Isn't the drop at 500 yards with standard ammo a little over 40 feet? The wind could change direction 4 or 5 times before the bullet gets to the target.

I stopped at 300 yards, the drop with the ammo the rifle I was using liked the most, the drop was 156" or 13'. The drop from 290 yds to 300 was about a foot.

I have shot CCI Standard Velocity alot, and it works great. drops ALOT more but with the base i am using that is not a problem

LOL, you do not need to learn to shoot! anyone ringing a gong @500yds with a 22lr is definitely handy with a rifle!!! you have inspired me to stretch my little rugers legs a bit.

I noticed... that my groups tend to have a vertical spread. I need to determine if that is me letting the gun recoil differently or ammo speeds?

it is very likely due to standard deviation which is basically just how close each rounds velocity is to the average velocity of each group (called a "string" when referring to the velocities of a given group)

i reload everything i shoot (except for rimfire of course) and shoot pretty much everything through a little chronograph i have that records, stores, and prints all the strings i shoot. i should try it with rimfire i suppose.

although i have never shot @ extreme ranges with my 1022, i have definitely always noticed that i print everything in a somewhat vertical fashion. these are just @50yds, but you can see the vertical nature i get as well below:

i have more groups that are not quite as vertically pronounced, but generally they are more than not.

ive always had so little faith in my ability to hit anything beyond 150yds or so with a rimfire ive never even tried, but you have rekindled my interest, LOL!!

Thats cool! Get out and try it, it is ALOT of fun!!!! Let me know how it goes

i do believe i will!!!!

im probably nuts for being so reluctant to try it since by virtue of ammo cost alone i will probably get more hits per dollar than with any of my high powered stuff LOL!!

epic cool thread :)
