Loading up some 100 grain partitions for the wifey in her 243....need a powder recc...wanted to use IMR4350 but cant seem to find any...anyone got anything else that has worked good for them in a Remington tube?

I have used IMR 4831 with good results using Sierra 100 Pro hunter bullets. The load will be compressed most likely at max charges if that matters to you. I also like H414 a lot for almost any bullet in .243 as long as a mag primer is used. H414/WW760 meters like silk, and will not be compressed in many applications. I consider it "ball 4350" in many ways, and my #1 overall choice in .243 Win.

I load 100 gr .243 Sierra GameKings using 34.0 grain of IMR 4064. I get sub-MOA groups with that load from my REM 700.

QuickLoad...verified by my own testing over a chrono and fired at targets. I just realized I was looking at my 85 grain bullet data....it is supposed to be 44 grains for the 100 grain bullets...my bad, I'll edit it in the other post.

If its a loading manual that you're looking for...Speer #14 has similar data.

My gun (actually my sons gun) is a Remington 700 243 Youth model with a 20 inch barrel...that load gets a 2660 fps from that gun.

Varget is doing GREAT for both accuracy and speed with 100 gr. pills in my old .243. MUCH better than 4350 or 4831 ever did.

I use 33 grains of IMR 3031 with CCI #200 large rifle primers a 100 grain round ( I use Hornady #2453 boat tail soft points). Seems to duplicate a factory load at 2900fps and I have no problem hitting targets out past 600 yards using them in my Winchester model 70 (22" barrel)

Nosler Recommends 42.5gr of RL22 as max and most accurate. I second their recommendation and results.

You can substitute the 100gr Hornady and Sierra bullets, but NOT the 100 or 105gr Speer. For those, reduce load to 40.0gr and work up, not to exceed 42.0gr. I had a friend blow the bolt on his Remington 788 with 42.0gr of IMR4831 and a Speer 105gr.

Use caution with the .243 and 100gr bullets. There are wide variations in throats and chambers, as well as case capacity.

Good info, as always, Goose. That could be why some of the max charges in the Speer manual are lower than they are in other manuals.
The longer I reload the smarter the Nosler guys look. Their "most accurate powder tested" has been right more than once for me. At the very least their recommendations are an excellent starting point in any load development.

for one-hundred grain Nosler Partitions, I'm partial to Alliant RL-22, but Hodgdon H4350 works well. RL-22 Recoils more smoothly than H4350, if that's a consideration. I use 43.2 grains H4350 and 45.5 grains RL-22, but I would never recommend using this heavy of charges. Start at 40.0 grains of H4350 or 42.5 grains of RL-22 and work up slowly. As a handloader, you already know that.

If you're going to use Nosler bullets, buy the Nosler reloading manual.

I load that 100gn partition a little long in the case, (I don't crimp in the canelure), pushed by 41.5grns of IMR4350 through a 22" barrel. (My son's rifle). 3020fps from my Chrony.

42grns is listed as maximum in the Nosler book. I did work my load up from 39grns of powder.

While many will say that RL19 will get the most potential velocity, or RL22 more accuracy over IMR4350, I have no issue with 4350 and the worked up accuracy/velocity for hunting quality rounds. The rifle my son shoots won't win any matches, but it is quite capable of killing deer with this load.

My brother borrowed my 243 reamer and started making a 243 for antelope this year.

He bought 100 gr Nosler partitians.
I told him to use H4350, but he Googled "243 loads", went to realguns, and saw an accurate load with Re22.

I didn't tell him that "accurate for one gun ain't always accurate for another".

He went out and bought Re22, when he already had IMR4350 on his shelf.

It won't make any difference.
The animal will still die.
