So it all started on new years eve 2021 (3 months ago) ... I ordered a Remington 700 complete long action with trigger and bolt, Magpul R700L hunter stock, Pacific Tool and Gauge Aluminum bottom metal floorplate, factory internal box mag, spring, and follower, PTG .200 parallel recoil lug and then got with McGowen Precision Barrels and ordered a 25-06, 1in7, 26in, fluted, threaded 5/8x24 barrel with matte bluing. I just today got the barrel after 8.5 weeks when I was quoted 12 so I'm happy. I threw on a Yankee Hill QD Muzzle Brake suppressor mount and a 30 cal Yankee Hill suppressor that dad has. 20220311_202211.jpg

I assume you have an antelope hunt planned in the near future. That would be perfect

I would expect that to shoot +/- 1/2”

I used to have some reloading supplies for one. Brass, bullets. Disremember. If you want them, I’ll look and see if I have any left. It’s been years since I had mine

I have a few boxes of bullets and dies and such along with some factory Remington and Hornady ammo. The funny thing is, I can find 25-06 halfway easily around OKC but It's more expensive than 300WinMag for some reason... Like a box of 300wm will be 31 a box and 25-06 will be 36 a box... And the premium stuff like Precision Hunter or Superformance is 50 bucks a box...

Gorgeous gun, congrats!

Nice looking rifle! And yes, we are expecting a range report! Hope it shoot as good as it looks.

I always liked the .25-06 and could never figure why the .270 became dominant.....marketing I suppose.

Yes, need range report and more pics, plz. :)

Jack O'Connor writing about the 270 and his hunting experiences probably had a lot to do with the 270's popularity. I grew up reading his articles and dreaming about doing the same when I grew up.

Range update! Got to the local indoor range at 25yds and fired a box of Remington 120gr PSP ammo and shot it with no issues. The group sizes were pretty damn good (about quarter size)for a hunting spec ammo. I don't like the factory Remington trigger at all... It's super hard to pull for some reason... I think that is a reason why the groups weren't any smaller than they already were. I don't have a photo of the target as I used it for a 308 as well afterwards. But all the cases extracted fine and had no wierd stuff to indicate any headspace issues. So props to McGowen for that! A true spin on and shoot barrel! The cases came out basically the same temp as when I loaded them even after the 20th round!!! Dummy Thicc barrel for the win!

Sexy build!

Did you order the barrel fully chambered? I didnt know that was an option out side of a ReMage
Yes, McGowen has you select the size of recoil lug you are going to be using with the barrel when you go through their order screen. It's really nice and they have a LOT of options for action threads, lug thickness, cartridges, and twist rates! I am impressed with their service and will definitely be going to them again in the future.

Man, that will reach out and touch someone (an antelope)! What does that weigh?
I don't have access to a scale with a low enough resolution to get an accurate weight but just based on my arm meter I'd say close to an M1 Garand... It's not light by any means but it's not a benchrest rifle either lol.

Thats really cool, i havent ordered a barrel form them yet, didnt know that was an option.

Small update. I decided to take the Timney that was in the 300RUM R700 that I got a little bit ago and swap it into my 25-06. So now the trigger feels better and has a noticeably crisper break! Ill have to test it along with the 135gr reloads I made using 6.5-06 140gr load data and H1000. I need to get to the family land with our chronograph and test it at 100ish yards.

That looks like a nice target setup. Mine do not sport the tight target twist, so I load and shoot 110 Accubonds, 117 gr. Pro Hunters, and 120 gr. Grand Slams. I would like to find a nice supply of 100 gr. Noslers, or Sierras, and sight dead on at 300 yds. at a velocity of 3250. This being for coyotes and deer.

I would appreciate if you could look for some 25-06 brass and bullets if you still have some. I know I already replied and told you I didn't need any, but with the way things are going I should get all the supplies I cant get right now while I can get them. Thanks!

Since I posted that, I talked to a neighbor. I had forgotten that I gave him some of the things I had. I’ll have to look to see if I have anything left. I’m cleaning out unused inventory

I gave away a bunch of stuff several years ago and forgot what I got rid of and what I kept

Thank you for trying sir! I appreciate your help and if you can find anything I'll make it worth your time! :)

Here is my latest 25-06, Ruger Hawkeye with a HS stock, and Weaver Grand Slam scope. A little heavy, but a fine shooter.View attachment 1067497
That is a very beautiful rifle! It's a lot softer on the eyes than my tacticool "sniper rifle" aesthetic... Also, how much clearance is there between the scope and the barrel? That looks like you could use a feeler gauge to measure it...
