.250 Savage #1

I believe it is a simple matter of necking up 22-250 brass to get back to the parent case.
The 250 savage is my go to for deer and antelope, but no way am I tempted at that price.

The price is fair considering today‘s market and the fact that the color case work and engraving was done by Bob Tyler. They only made 125 of those rifles if I’m not mistaken.

Ruger #1.
.250 Savage.
Neither is about bargain venison shopping.
Its about being different :)

2 yrs ago a chain store had Remington factory .250 savage, several boxes of it.
But IIRC it was 50 or 55 bucks a box.
And it sold.

Im kicking myself for letting a LNIB 6.5 CM #1A get past me.

Nice rifles with the engraving and color case work. Not my first choice of chamberings. I bought several boxes of the Remington ammo at $40/box. It took a while but I eventually accumulated enough brass to last me a good while. Also switched to Barnes bullets because I don't like big game bullets that come completely unglued on a lung shot. All told, I'd rather it was a 6.5 or 7mm.

When I bought my No. 1 in 250 Savage I picked up a case of Hornady factory ammo loaded with 100 grain Interlocks. Based on my sample size of one, I’m pretty pleased with that load. 4F457087-9F39-4DD9-A799-28640D0B40E9.jpeg

The 100gr interlock was my go to bullet in my 250 savage. It shot almost as accurately as the 100 ballistic tip, performed just as well on game, and was cheaper. Then Hornady discontinued it!
So I'm back to the ballistic tip. Which works just fine on deer and antelope.

My failures were with Remington CorLokt. That's a beautiful rifle but I don't trust Hornady bullets either.
I can’t say that I’ve ever seen a Hornady bullet fail. I honestly can’t point to any bullet failure from any brand in my personal hunting experience, but I know they happen. Given my preference I’ll take Sierra Game Kings or Nosler Accubonds, but I’m not married to either.

I've seen more Hornady bullets fail than any other. Usually jacket/core separation, sometimes catastrophic. First time was hitting a doe with the .405 and the 300gr Hornady factory load. Bullet came completely unglued on the shoulder blade and she had to be brained to keep her from getting up. This is a more mild example of a pistol bullet separating.
