2nd Coyote attack on child in NJ's gun free utopia

Well we tried transplanting brown bears and teaching them to eat city dwellers,
they got sick on the vegan yuppies, and exhaust fumes, so we are now on our urban control project , with smaller tougher predators. Next year we are going to introduce Alaskan wolves:rolleyes: with short asphalt colored hair. (AKA Wolfen ).

Joe Demke, I gotta' ask, are you saying that if I am anywhere other than a 10,000 acre ranch in Wyoming that I shouldn't shoot the thing that is preying on my children?

So I am sitting at Denny's with my family and someone decides they like the way my little boy smiles and decides to make a pedo-snack out of him, I should try and stop him but not resort to the S&W360pd in my pocket?

Nor should I shoot a gator or 'yote that has decided to eat him, just because I live in town.

Had that predator not been a relatively small 'yote but was instead a feral Bull Mastiff, that child would be dead, no question, her parent would not have been able to save her.

My son would survive for two reasons, first the animal would have been dead before he got to him or shortly thereafter, and second because I live in Florida I can exercise my right to keep and bear arms, and I do. I can exercise that right pretty much everywhere I go in my state, be it in a state park miles from anyone or standing in line at La Terrasita in Tampa.

Where do guns fit into this? You live in Nevada where there are coyotes. Ever gone out and shot at some? They don't exactly make themselves an easy target. Moreover, this happened in what is basically a suburb of NYC. You really think Middletown NJ is going to legalize varmint hunting in the city limits?
No, wait! I get it now! The problem was that the 5-year old was out in the yard without his sidearm! His parents are probably tree-hugging gun-banning crunchygranola cryptofascist COMMIES!

? Was this tongue in cheek? Sorry, I thought you were serious. The news report was not about coyote control, it was about an attack on a child in a "safe" suburban setting in a state where the right to self defense is suppressed at best. I guess I was confused as to what the above had to do with anything in the article and took as an anti- troll like rant. That's what happens when you post after a long day at work. :) My apologies.

pdow8g1, depends on where your yard is? In town, county, depends on the state, what was the animal up to? In Florida, if it's not menancing you or your livestock, and you're in town you are likely violating a town ordinance by shooting it. If any of your neighbors are closer then 300 feet and are at home you are also violating state law by shooting, penalty?...not sure. Outside of town, I think they are classified as varmits and like feral hogs are always in season in so far as hunting goes. We shoot them when we are hunting, whenever we see them.

Well, my point regarding the OP was, and is, that he posts these WHEN ANIMALS ATTACK!!!!!!11twentythree articles with no commentary or other addenda to give us some idea why he thinks it's important for us to read them.
WRT animal control, other than an armed adult out in the yard guarding the child (who I'm not convinced was actually bitten by a coyote) how would a gun have improved the situation?
If you should happen to see your child being attacked by a coyote, bear, rabbit, or shoggoth, I think you should shoot it (the attacker, not the child) post haste.
Maybe I'm just getting weary of a climate of terror. If I pay too much attention to this board, I'll be so consumed with fear of illegal aliens, coyotes, drug addicts, bears, terrorists, jackbooted thugs, mountain lions, and other assorted bloodthirsty creatures that I just won't be able to function. Frankly, I don't know how I survived this long.

Joe Demko, like I said sorry, your point is well taken. I guess because of where I live, work and where I like to recreate, I am constantly confronted by things that if handled wrongly could easily be deadly. I killed a rattler as thick as my forearm last week in my backyard. Two weeks before that while rollerblading with my son along the Withlacoochee State Trail in the state forest by the same name I startled a group of feral pigs, they were not happy about my intrusion. While I did not end up shooting one, yelling can work with them, it was a close thing and I was prepared to do so. Six months ago in downtown St. Pete I was forced to stop a very aggressive beggar from approching my wife and myself, my hand on my pistol at the small of my back was likely the thing that stopped it from escalating further. It's not like I look for these things sometimes they just happen. :(

No lacochee your first impression is correct

Double Naught Spy, my other cyberstalker, has bitten Joe and now he tries to trash my threads with off topic rants that closely resemble those of the antis.
I'm sure he means well, just don't come into contact with his bodily fluids and you'll be fine:neener:

Gunsmith,
You still haven't explained how you conclude that I am motivated by jealousy of your popularity. Your chain of reasoning that brought you there will, I'm sure, be fascinating and illustrative. Please post ASAP.

I must admitt - this has got to be one of the most entertaining threads that I've read in a while. It has it all - humor ( LOL DogBonz), information - great post chuhhuniban - very informative, and childish bickering - can never have too much of that :p
Thanks for the entertainment :D
