While reading the threads in the Rifle column relating to the Win Mod 94 30-30, It got me to thinking, why not discuss loads for the 30-30? So, if I'm doing this right, I'll mention a couple I use.
150gr Remington Core-Lok RN, Win cases, 34.0gr Win 748 and CCI mag primer.
170gr Hornady FN, Win cases, 34.0gr Win 748 and CCI mag primer.
I no longer hunt, so dropped down to the 150's for the most part. Ok, those are mine.

Back in the day, I loaded first the Speer HotCor 170grn JFP over H322, then switched to the Winchester 170grn SilverTip, then, when those dried up, to the Nosler 170, and then I dropped H322 and started using IMR3031 for jacketed.

I'm basically out of the jacketed bullet business for rifle, however... except for my semi-autos. I load the Montana cast Lyman #311041 173grn .310" FP/GC over IMR4198 for my Savage 99 .30-30.

110 grain FMJ M1 bullet loaded over H335 and 160 grain FTX bullet loaded with LEVERevolution powder. I also have loads with both powders for 150 grain round nose Interlock bullets. I’m working on cast loads but have stalled a bit there.

160gr Hornady FTX over 34 grains CFE223 for 2250fps from Win Model 94 w/ 20” barrel for deer to 250y

180gr Speer Grand Slam, tip filed down to 175gr in jig, over 34 grains CFE223 for 2200fps from Win Model 94 w/ 20” barrel for elk, bear and bison to 250y (980 ft-lbs, 1580fps)

First you’ve seen one of these loads, probably.

170 grn Sierra FN #2010 bullet
over 30.0 grains IMR-4895
Winchester or CCI LRP

150 grn Sierra FN#2000 bullet
over 32.0 grains IMR-4895
Win. or CCI LRP

Both loads are accurate from my Marlin 336 and my Winchester 94 Carbine.

I have a couple of loads for 160 grain Bear Creek Supply moly coated FN lead bullets but I will have to post later after I go to my garage and look at my load cards. Maybe tomorrow.

1980 model 94 carbine
160 gr. Hornady FTX bullet over 36 gr. Leverevolution powder.

willams peep sight.
The first picture is at 50 yds. Black circle on top of front sight post
Second is at 111 yds front sight post covering black circle
Last is at 200 yds. Front sight post covering black circle

Thats exactly what I just acquired, a 1980 '94 and just put a Williams FP sight on. Still have to take off the buckhorn. Just now looking at loading for it

I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!
I just put a Skinner peep on mine and have to sight it in again.
I wanted a peep where the rear sight was and I’ve heard good things about the Skinner. We’ll see.
I may be going back to the Williams….

What got me started reloading. I wanted to shoot the Nosler Ballistic Tips and 125 TNT’s out of my Super 14 Contender to hunt with. I’ll not post the load here, but it was potent and hit like Thor’s hammer. I discussed my loads with Bill Falin at Accurate when their first loading guide came out and found the real potential of that combo. Getting to meet someone like him early on in my loading experience was so incredibly helpful, he was at my lgs pimping Accurate’ first loading manual and signed it for me.

Hornady max of Lever evolution and a 150 interlock it's my hunting load. My plinking load is 150 Berry's plated and 29.5 of IMR3031.

My use at your own risk load is 15 grains of Blue Dot and a Berry's 150. It's accurate and quiet.

6grs of bullseye, 165 Lead PC, LRP.

Absolute blast to shoot!

This is an old thread but I finally got the cast worked out. It’s a 1980’s era Marlin 336 with Williams Peep Sight and a Skinner front Patridge sight.

I found a load for a 30-30 Short Ramge on the Marlin forum. I use a 135 grain flat nose Acme Bullet coated with Hi-Tech over a similar charge (5.7 grains) of Winchester 231. Doesn’t beat me up with recoil or noise and is accurate to at least 50 yards. I haven’t tried it further. It’s going slow though. I had to replace the rear sight for enough elevation to zero.

I have a Henry single shot that loves 31 grains of IMR3031 pushing a Sierra 110gr varmint hollow point...
It pushes 150 gr. bullets along a little slower, but plenty good enough to kill deer within 100 yards from a Win. 94. My son has shot several deer with this load, I used Hornady 150 SP, and CT 150 Silvertip in my loads.

These are all a great resource. My 357 revolver and my 30-30 are my experiment guns. They will run whatever I can dream up, since their ability to cycle is up to me. 700 fps with a 125 grain cast 38? Works every time. Download a 30-30 to stout 9mm levels? Seems to shoot ok to me. Use my brass punch to tamp down powder in either one? So far so good, and I haven't exceeded max charges, which are honestly surprisingly high in the Lyman manual for 357.
