and is that round produced by anybody other than Remington?
and if a .223 just has to do, what's a good .223 round to deer hunt with?

Oh, that's where I got it confused. Was thinking the .30 rem was a .30 rem. forgot totally about .30 rem AR. Thanks for setting that straight.No.
The 6.8 SPC came out in 2002, six years before the .30 Rem AR.
The 6.8 is based on the old .30 Remington case.
The .30 Rem AR came out in 2008 and is based on the .450 Bushmaster, which in turn was based on the .284 Winchester, which in turn was based on the .308 Winchester.

Dude killed a speed goat in American Hunter @ 300 yards. Look. If you have to ask you probably shouldn't be hunting.
Why not neck the 30 Rem AR down to 24 or 25? Would it fit in standard AR-15? What would the ballistics be?
And to the .450 Bushmaster is a cartridge of it`s own, it is not based on the .284 Win............BTW & FYI the 284 Win is NOT "based on the .308 Win". The 284 Win has a rebated rim(.473) which is the same as a .308 while the case is larger ahead of the extractor groove.
The 30AR was born a loser and is destined to be an orphan in the near future regardless of it's attributes(if it has any). If you really need/want a .308, get an AR10.
The .223 is a VERY marginal deer round and contributes to many wounded and lost animals yearly. Yes, it WILL kill a deer and I started several kids out with it but that doesn't make it a good deer cartridge. A Ford Ranger will pull a fairly big trailer some of the time but, sooner or later, you're going to wish you had more weight and horsepower.
