I built this rifle about 6-7 years ago and only shot it once. Less than 20 rounds with a red dot to make sure it functions. I built it as a backup to my primary 300 blk which I use for deer hunting and for deer drives. I thought a red dot would be great for deer drives, however, I'm considering building a 10.5" pistol for that role. I hand load and so I understand the minimum reliable expansion velocity for my loads are 1800 fps which the 10.5" should be over. the 16" clocked in at around 2250 FPS. This rifle has been collecting dust and I sometimes forget this is stowed away somewhere in my cabinet. It's like opening your wallet and forgot you have a 20.
This is a budget build, everything you see here is just over $500 (when parts were cheap and the market was flooded) No BCG, mostly Anderson parts with PSA MOE lower build kit. Amazon $40 Quad rail with bipod.
I think it is time to put a scope on this rifle. I was looking at the Vortex Sonora but then someone mentioned it was made in china. My cousin has a Nikon (probably made in china too) which I help sight in and the parallax on that thing was pretty bad. Sure it may have the name on it but the quality and expectation is not there.
Again I'm not looking to spend a fortune on this scope, may $100-150 and $200 at most. 90% of the deer I see or realistically get the opportunity to shoot is within 50 yards. This may end up being a loaner gun too. What do you guys shoot and use? Currently I have a Bushnell Banner (came on my SKS) on my other 300 blk and it has been good. it's pretty beat up but holds zero and the past two years have not had to adjust it.
