S&W 5906 for $299 at CDNN is your best bet used. (Wideners appears to have these too for the same price)

Ruger P95 is good too at around $300 new just about anywhere.

Wideners also has the Ruger P85 (alloy framed predecessor of the P95) for $229 used with free shipping. Also not a bad choice.

The surplus Walther P-1's are also about $300 and 9mm. A little older, but a fun range gun if that's what you want.

Truth be told when you consider the used market, you can find quite a few guns at around that price range that will serve you well. The above models are a good starting point though.

I'll second all of that, you can't really go wrong with a 5906 or a Ruger P-series in general, and they both fit your price range.

5906 from CDNN...i got one in and it was in excellant condition.....i sold my Ruger p95 shortly after I got the 5906.....and I am a ruger guy!

Nothing really wrong or bad about the p95 it was just that the 5906 felt better in my hand and I shot it alot better also

Does anybody know if those 5906's were made prior to 1994? I live in New York State (yes, I appreciate your prayers!) and can only have a 10-round mag unless it is pre-'94.

Thanks, ColtPythonElite, for your response. It looks like my state legislators deem it safe for me to own---at least for now---so I think I'll order one.

Another Plus for the Ruger P95. For 300 dollars or a little over, you are getting a factory NEW gun with a lifetime warranty from one of the best companies in the business IRT customer service. The P95 is built like a tank, very solid, very reliable. It's a little chunky for Concealed Carry IMHO, but it's a solid offering from Ruger. Holsters can be tough to find, but they do exist

The 5906 is another good choice, but it's used and while there is support for it, you'll pay for it.

CDNN has an ATI 92 for $299. I understand it's an excellent copy of the Beretta 92. I have no experience with it however.

yes the 5906 and even though they may not show them in their catalog they also have some 3d gen 6906. Same as 5906 only smaller. I have them both and have not had any problems with either.

All guns are used after the first shot goes through them, so new isn't a huge deal to most people after they've been buying guns for a while.

That aside, Ruger does NOT have a lifetime warranty - at least not officially. They'll typically stand by their products for life, but it's an understanding rather than a written guarantee.

S&W DOES have a written lifetime warranty for all guns made after 1989 (which all 5906's were) and though it officially references they original owner, they never check that and pretty much fix it regardless of the ownership history.

Realistically, both have a de facto unofficial lifetime warranty for all owners, original or not. You really don't have anything to fear buying a S&W. Both of them are good companies - both stand by their products.

If you can find an FEG Hi-Power clone they are nice 9mm for that price range. I would look for the PJK-9HP model, they seem to be the better ones of the Hungarian clones.

My wife carries one in her vehicle, goes bang every time and is accurate.

the 5906 from CDNN for $299 is probably the best 9mm that $300 can buy. i have been very impressed by mine.

S&W 5906 for $299

I almost aways offer a Keltec pf9 for this price, but you opened my eyes! Man I'm drooling over the 5906.
Also, I had a Ruger p85 that I sold. It's really a big pistol. I mean big. It's almost to big. And blocky.
