drooling over the 5906? i think they're kind of ugly looking. great guns, however... and mine has a really nice trigger, surprisingly.

Yep the Ruger P95 is the only $300 9mm I'd buy and actually rely on. I've owned two in the past and used them as beater guns.

I used to suggest the Stoeger Cougar, but the prices are closer to $400 on those now

I just put a Walther P38 on layaway. Real excited to get the old girl home. Paid probably more than I should've at $399 after all said and done, but I want her badly.

On the flipside, I got a Taurus PT111 Mil Pro awhile back for $312 out the door with 3 mags. Very wonderful little pistol, made me swear off .40 S&W altogether.

If its a steel framed one that's a steal. If it's one of the post-war aluminum framed ones it's still about the going price for one. Not really any different than the P-1 models physically but the P-38 designation does command a slightly higher price from a collectability standpoint.

The 5906 is a great gun, it's a tack driver. Warning, it is heavy and not really practical for EDC for your average person. I bought one from CDNN, I'd say it was in Good to Very Good condition. Tons of life left.

CDNN has the stainless 5906 with one 15 rd. mag and Hogue grips for $299. They also have the smaller alloy framed 6906 with one 12 rd. mag for $329. An extra 6906 mag goes for $19.99. Either gun is a proven design and an excellent buy for the money.

Another couple of proven performers in the used market at around $300 would be the Hungarian FEG and the Argentine FM Hi-Power copies.

Depends if it's for range or CCW. But I would say either a S&W Sigma or Kel-Tec P-11 both of which can be had New under 3 bills.

The current Smith & Wesson Sigma 9VE is a superb value for 299.99 brand new. It is a Glock clone and tried and tested workhorse by our Border Patrol. It is worthy or consideration as well in my opinion.

Border Patrol uses an H&K.

Bersa Thunder Pro 9UC, unfired, with two mags, $300, purchased 13 Aug. 2011, life is good.........

I like my Sigma. I have no reason to buy another full size 9mm.

It will double and triple tap with the best if I do my part.

Where I am you can get a ex-police Glock .40 for $390ish out the door. I know not a 9mm but hey bang for the buck right.

I used to own a Sigma sw9ve and loved everything about from the way it fit in my hand, the slide finish, mag capacity, never had a jam or misfire, the only thing that I did not like was the heavy trigger, something like 9lbs. Other than that, for the price it's a great gun.

Hi-point has a cheapo 9mm for $150. Then you can buy 2
Junk. They may work, but they're junk. If you want to spend under $200 for a new gun, you want soviet surplus or you're dumb. I don't know that american shooters have ever had it this good. We currently have... uh... 5 comm bloc pistols, all of which can commonly be found under $200 each, that are reliable and actually quality guns.

Buy a Highpoint before you buy a Sccy, sorry but I have heard nothing but negative reviews on them, or just buy the KT p11 (which the try to rip off) and get GOOD customer service if something goes wrong.

If you get out there and turn over a few rocks, you can get a good deal on a quality gun like a Smith 3rd gen for the price some of the junk sells for new. Not long ago I walked away with 150 bucks tied up in this one.

Ruger P95 - make mine a "DC" decock only version.
S&W 9VE "Sigma" (less chunky than the Ruger)
Kel Tec P-11 (mine was flawless, sold it becuase my wife could not rack the slide)

I would avoid the "3-digit" 3rd gen S&W pistols (915) I had a 411 (.40S&W instead of 9mm) and had terrible frame peening problems due to the aluminum alloy frame. The "4-digit" model numbers seem to be OK.
