.308 Battle Rifle/Carbine and why?

For what uses? What kind of rifle or carbine is it? The Kel-Tec RFB (when it comes out) will be a rifle in a carbine size package. If reliable, that is what i would chose.

I have a frankenFAL built on a DSA Type 1 receiver that is awesome. The FAL is a rugged, easy to operate, will eat almost anything you feed it design. True it is not as accurate as an AR10 or an M1A but then again I doubt I will ever notice the difference. It is field accurate and I am confident that I can hit anything I need to at reasonable ranges. DSA builds wonderful FAL rifles and if you have the money that is what I would do.

I prefer this robust, ultra reliable, extremely accurate MK14 SEI.

Belgian FN-FAL

I like the Belgian FN-FAL, these being as accurate as any battle rifle ever offered. I have the Competition model and it is a true 1 MOA rifle. These rifles have great ergonomics, point well, have good sights, are robust and eat any ammo.

I also choose the Fal- like you said like to eat ammo and low recoil. Is why I like it. by the way I have a stg58... trying to get my s... together and post it.

I think H20 Man has some sort of RSS feed or notification that alerts him whenever someone posts a thread on .308 rifles so that he can post his SEI MK14 :)

For my part, I like the PTR-91. Stone cold reliable, lighter than a FAL, dirt cheap mags.

I know H2O man is just killing me with that pic.

I too like the PTR-91 and I already own a M1A Standard.

If I could just get the FAL I'd have everyone's top three.

Is it me or does this topic pop up daily in one form or another?

M1A-accuracy,history of rifle it's based on,my love for iron and wood.

saiga-value,reliability and all the reasons above.

then again,i also like the fal and g3 derivatives depending on the parts, who built it,etc.

you should have though about this about two years ago more or less but what can you do.

if you truely are an "arlover",you should give serious thought to your lego system.they are awesome too.

ARLover being 'automatic rifle lover'. Any and all autos, shotguns and handguns too actually. Didn't give my handle too much thought actually, oh well.

Simple, which .308 battle rifle/carbine do you prefer and why

Right now one in .260 Rem - a DPMS; the LR-260 Light. :) Hopefully, the RFB with 24" bbl will actually come out; AND hopefully I can get my hands on one, AND hopefully it will be of high quality and survive the test of thousands of monkey beta testers such as me bangin it around, and come out as a reliable & accurate platform - then in that case, IT will become my favorite. Then I'll then just have to figure out how to chamber it in .260!!!! :p

I'll take a small liberty with cameron's statement:

Why? 150 at 2600. Nuff said.

Sig line material! :D

I would buy this rifle as a battle rifle because of the quality and I trained in the Army on something similar (M-14). I think that everyone who went through Basic Training in the military should have one of these issued to him/her plus 1000 rounds of ammo just in case the USA is invaded.

Whichever floats your boat, whichever fits your frame best, and is a system you can understand and work with. These are all time tested designs, which if built with quality components, will shoot as well or better than I can for sure.

I like the PTR91, and have an early JLD version. It will be the last rifle I have to leave my possession. Versatile, accurate, easily scoped, wonderful trigger, shoots extremely well, love the sights, accepts a subcaliber kit for 22 long rifles for plinking and joyous outings. What's not to like?
