Please post up pics of your 308 saiga rifles. I'm looking for ideas as to what directon to take my build. Especially in terms of optics and mounts, some of which will be 308 specific.

Please list the components shown.

Other saigas are welcome too but please specify.

Is that a bp-02 on the rifle pictured bottom?

How do you like the kobra and how does it compare to an eotech or similar?

Here is mine:

A Tapco conversion with CSSPECS 15 round magazines. Fantastic rifle, but the concussion and fireball are almost frightening. I can put all of my shots around 3" when I'm just having fun.

i don't see any pictures of groups. I'm talking 100 yard groups not that 50 yard stuff people put up to make their inaccurate guns look accurate.

lol. It was supposed to be a joke. Sorry, tone of voice is non existant in text form without all sorts of unnecessary punctuation.

I kinda figured. It came across a Tad trollish rather than comical though.

If I can get up early enough ill find out how accurate my saiga is. (Night shift) because like you I've heard saigas can be surprisingly accurate but have never seen any groups afirming this.

I'm not gonna lie here, and I'm not an excellent shot (I need some more practice time but $$$ says otherwise). When I have my Saiga at 100 yards, I can put all of the hits in the black area of a target standing or sitting. When I bench the gun, I can get down to as small as 2", but the stock AK sights really don't allow for any better groupings. If you get a red dot or a scope for the gun, it definitely can do better than what I get out of it.

Fair enough. I've been interested in these guns for a while now but i'm an accuracy freak so I haven't taken the plunge. They look like fun though!

There are a couple people on here that have pulled some amazing groups from the Saiga .308. The stock sights are pretty hard to use because they are all in line so they cover the entire target and it becomes a little difficult to see. The gun has potential, just not with the stock irons.

I remember your bolt action 7.62x39 project and how you handloaded for it. I highly recommend the Krebbs rear sight rail for your Saiga 308. Mark Krebbs made it virtually indestructable and extremely stable for scope mounting.
I love the one I put on my heavy barrel Vepr rifle. It increased my sight radius to 28 inches and it stabilizes much heavier scopes that the side mounts can't.

Saiga 21 inch 308

Magpul MOE CTR Buttstock

UTG 5th Generation Quick Detachable Mount

Aimpoint 9000SC 4MOA Red Dot

FWIW, my wife who is legally blind in one eye can reliably hit the 500yd gong with the irons. And this is with the rifle in original factory configuration shooting Silver Bear 140 soft points.

Saiga 7.62 converted. TWS top rail, Tapco stock set in winter duracoat, Swift 9x12 scope, Dinzag internals. Sitting along it's PSA AR brother ready for winter coyotes. .308 is next on the list.

I have a few dozen Saiga's. Few .308's. Most of my .308's I have settled on this configuration.
Tapco G2 Trigger Group
Collapsible stock
CSS 20 round mag
Front rails
AK pistol grip
I tap off the FSB and ream it out to slide further back then thread the barrel for either a muzzle brake or flash hider.
Quick detach scope mount with a red dot usually...some have a scope.
I always change out the front sight post with those Carolina Shooter neon colored sight post. Sure makes things easier.
Anyway this one is a standard config.
Accurate as heck. I only shoot British 7.62X51 MilSurp through all of my .308's.

The Kobra has some serious things going for it but like anything it is not perfect I would highly recommend it as a sight option for the Saiga or AK I have shot some really good groups with it at 200. I think the RS aimpoint and aimpoint micro mounts are two of the best options I have seen other than the Kobra. My personal taste precludes the scout gas tube setup.

My current rig.

I tend to get 3-4 inch groups with mine at 100 yards. And 2-3 inch groups with my AR-15, my AR will do better for other people, I'm just not a great shot.

That is the nicest saiga conversion I have seen. I wish I had that kind of skill. If you ever get a chance pm me a short note on how you did it.:D

They are actually not that bad. I'm surprised more people don't do hand guard conversions.

Top cover is a surplus Romanian AK-74 or AK-M, just needed a slight trim to fit.

Gas tube is a surplus AK-74, there is some heavy filing/grinding to make it work with the thicker Saiga barrel. Just line the two gas tubes up and you'll see what has to change.

Lower retainer was made using a Surplus AK-74 retainer, it has a split collar to hold it on the barrel. If you don't have a whole shop full of tools, I'd suggest buying one that Dinzagarms has. Same concept and it works very well.

Wood stock set are Romanian surplus that I got for $15, it was a little rough but after it was stripped and steamed most of the dings had smoothed out.. Refinish was whatever stain and spar varnish I could find in the flammable cabinet. Lower hand guard needed fitting to allow the larger barrel to pass through, I used a bridgeport mill and end mills, but a rotary tool would get the job done.

Bakelite pistol grip had some tufts sticking out.. Smoothed them down and used a little epoxy to seal the fibers down.

Trigger guard is reused reshaped and tig welded to the mag catch tower.

Trigger group is smoothed but otherwise a normal Tapco G-2, I did shim the trigger and hammer to take the side play out.

Bolt carrier is polished and sprayed with a clear coat.

Paint was some sort of bake on industrial machine paint. Pretty much like gunkote or duracoat.
