Wow, 14.5 grains of 2400 seems to be really popular with 158 grain bullets!

Max is 15.3 for lead. I run mine a 15.0 Grains with good results.

Ruger GP-100--6 1/2" barrel
125gr Hornady XTP w/ 17.5 gr of 2400
Flame is the name of the game..............................:D:D:D

For my 4" M66-2 I use 158gr hp over 6 gr of titegroup - these are for sd/hd

for plinking I use .38 spl ammo 158gr hp over 3.8 gr of titegroup.

22 grains of H110 under a 125 gr Hornady XTP with a CCI SP magnum primer.

It's the only load I'm using now. Why buy a Ferrari and then putt around town?

158 gr. LSWC from MBC on top of 15.0 gr. 4227 with magnum primers. It's heavy recoil. When I tested it last week my first 4 shots could be covered with a quarter, all in one elongated hole. This is in a 6" 686.

i like homecast 150 gr swcs (lyman mould #358477) with 6-6.2 grs of bullseye in .357 magnum cases and 3-3.2 grs. of bullseye in .38 spl cases and the same bullet....... of course as always your mileage may vary..................

Cuz my load is more accurate, pleasant to shoot, and cheaper to assemble.

Well, the group is a ragged hole, it's within my comfort range (I usually go through 100-150 rounds in a range session. But I used to shoot heavy long range varmint pistol rounds a lot. Try touching off a 30/06 in a handgun-now THAT takes the fun out of it).

But I have to give you the nod on cheaper to assemble. Although if I wanted cheap I'd stick to rimfire.

ever been to an ihmsa shoot sniper 5??

some of those guys who shot steel animals at 200 yds off shoot some handguns that WILL get your attention......... my best friend shot a custom chambered tc contender that started life as a .44 mag and was chambered to shoot .444 marlin....... now that was a HANDFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like a 158gr. PB cast bullet over 13gr. 2400 lit with standard SPP. It does well for what I want it to do.

14.5 grns of 2400 with a 158 Lasercast SWC.

It can do this, 50 shots, offhand 15 yrds.

All that came after my time with the big guns. My time with the XP was in the mid and late 70's. Wound up selling all that and had to shoot small bore for a while because the "boss" hated guns and put me on a budget. Now that she FINALLY saw the light and got turned on to shooting we both shoot revolver (she shoots a 6" Ruger GP100 with small grips and light springs and custom grip panels of Wenge and says to friends "I LOVE my revolver"), small bore (target rifle and pistol), and she shoots some of my C&R stuff with reduced loads (I have one for her using 140gr A-Max's and 4759 powder in a Swedish M96 that she calls her "lady fingers" because the ballistic tips remind her of painted fingernails). I am thinking about getting a contender in something like .243 or .223 and tricking it out with all the bells and whistles, but that is going to have to wait for the time being until after the new carpet, new sofa, vacation, and getting her an M&P15-22 later this year (she wants something lighter than my 13 lb target rifle so she can shoot offhand for fun. At first she didn't want a big ugly "army" gun until I explained to her what an AR actually is and then explained the REAL advantages of the Stoner platform (ergonomics, modularity, increase recoil control, adjustability, etc) and then she was hooked. I just have to Duracoat it in some color other than black or pink.

Well, on Father's day wifey and I spent all day at the range with rifles and pistols. So we get to the pistol range and vote to shoot off the benches at 25 yards and there's room enough for both of us to shoot (outdoor range with no dividers). We rarely shoot side by side at the same time and she took a liking to my Mk2 with the red dot. We made a joint observation:

She does NOT like shooting next to me when I am shooting my .357 with the 125gr HP/22 gr H110 loads. I do NOT like shooting on her right and getting hit in the head with her casings from 16" away. Needless to say, adjustments were made in the interest of continuing our 30 year marriage.

Someone help me out here. On another thread I was told my loads of 19.5 grains Win296/H110 was below safe starting point for the exact same bullets fourdollarbill uses 17.7 on. Why so very much confusing info when it comes to hand loads using this powder?

Bill,
According to Hodgdon's current data 19.5gr is below the starting minimum charge. H110/W295 should not be downloaded so it's probably best not to go below what Hodgdon recommends. That's one of the reasons I also use 2400 in my .357 Magnum ammo, so I can download the ammo when I feel the need for a lighter load. I still use W296 when I want full power loads, especially in my Carbine.

Someone else posted a really good response to the H110 minimum charge so I can't take credit. It has to do with the burn rate and ignition of the powder. A fully charge case will burn from the primer forward. If a case has a low charge, there is more surface area for the primer to ignite. This reduces the time to burn the charge. This results in a higher chamber pressure.

Put another one down for 14.5 grains 2400 and a 155-160-grain cast bullet. The same bullet with 6.5 grains Unique is another good one. Be warned that the 2400 data is a mite stout for K-frame Smiths, and should be used in moderation. Good to go in L and N frames.
