Just wanted to share a few thoughts on the Buffalo 125 gr. connical round in a 1851 navy.
Loading: Was a pain!
1. The bullets would not fit under the ram, so I had to take the cylinder out and start one, then put it back in for the finnishing touch. If I had a bench loader this wouldn't have been a problem.
2. Lining up the round took some practice. I had some problems at first getting the round started. Removing some of the dry lube at the base of the bullet helped loading alot. After I got the hang of it I didn't have any problems.
Shooting: I like these bullets.
1. Accuracy for my gun was better than with a round ball. I was using 17 grains (volume) of American Pioneer Powder (I know it is weak, but it has great accuracy in my gun) with a wad, no grease. I had a 2 inch group at about 20 yards. With round balls my gun shoots around 4 inches high, and to the left about 2 inches, the connicals where dead center, but still shot high, but only by about 3 inches.
2. Gun jumps more, and is alot louder .
I wish I had a picture, but it started to rain on me while shooting, and then to top it off, I finally broke a hand spring on my piece, guess I wasn't supposed to shoot today. All in all, I like the bullets because I was hitting better, and they came with pistol wads to boot. Price was $8.59 for 50, but I got mine on sale for $6.00. When the weather gets better, I will shoot some more with some different loads and post them.
