Just picked up a new SP-101 in .357 Mag for Christmas. Upon hearing this, a friend of mine gave me over 1000 rounds of .38 +p to shoot. So here is my question: I have heard that shooting to much .38 out of a .357 will cause irreversible build-up inside the cylinder making it impossible to chamber .357 cartridge. Is this true?

Buy a .41 caliber brass brush to clean the cylinder.

Another trick is to use a empty .357 case in the each of the chambers in the cylinder right when you finish shooting. Gets most of the buildup out before you go home. Secret is to do it while the firearm is still warm from shooting.

'making it impossible' .........

No. That is not true.

I thought for a moment he was going to ask if the +P was safe in his .357 Magnum...

Make yourself a chamber cleaner with an unprimed, unsized 357 case and drill out the primer hole to fit a piece of coat hanger wire and then epoxy it in place, make a nice loop so you can twist it in the chamber. Then with a needle file make a series of notches around the case mouth, use this to quickly remove any crud from shooting 38s.

I've shot thousands of .38s in my .357s. Just brush the chambers out before shooting .357 rds. if you are shooting both at the range. Clean it good with solvent after shooting. Not a big deal as some think.
