.38 super--good for?

With the help of several people on this forum I was able to achieve .357 magnum performance with my 2 .38 supers (which was my original goal). I have clocked speer 124gr gold dots @ 1450fps out of my 2 government models without ANY signs of excessive pressure. I use virgin Starline +P brass and mostly Blue Dot powder. I have had NO issues at all with these guns. I did however, change the recoil springs and mainsprings. I understand there might be a legal issue with using handloads for self defense (although there is very little evidence to supprt this statement), so I dont carry these supers, I only use them for night stand duty occasionally. That way nothing could be said if the perp is in my home. Anyway, I just wanted to give Kudos to the super and say I've had fantastic luck with the guns and the loads I worked up. Kevin.

Your wife doesn't even have to worry about shooting that gun, all she has to do is pull it out then turn and walk away while the badguys are still distracted and going "Ooooo Pretty Shiny"
