Dont be a victim!

Cliff Notes:
Husband and teenage son left for work/school. Mom alone with 10yr old son. Intruders locked a smallish dog in the washing machine and locked the mastiff in the bathroom.
Mom hid her son in the bedroom closet and had him call 911 (4 hang-up before getting thru). She grabbed a 22 and confronted the invaders. they split, 25min later the cops show up.

I am glad everything turned out OK for her but this is a classic example of why training in the use of a firearm is a good idea even if the only weapon is a 22. Originally she grabbed a BB gun before remembering about the 22. If she had some training, the shot (I think it was a AD) wouldn't have been fired unless into a intruder.

Minutes away when seconds count.

Not a jab at police at all, they cannot be everywhere all the time.

There is one thing that does not make sense to me about this story, a typical bedroom door will not stop an angry mastiff, trust me on this one I have a Mastiff. When mine was still just a 9 month old 90 pound puppy we left him to stay with my sister in law while we went on vacation, the second or third night there while she had him locked up in a bathroom he heard someone sneaking around outside, he clawed his way through the hollow core door in about 5 minutes, as an adult just a few weeks ago he saw a stray cat out the back door and lunged hitting the door so hard that it broke the lock out of the door frame (typical vinyl clad drop in exterior door), at the time the deadbolt was not set, only the knob was locked.

Ike

p.s. mine is the runt of his litter

I pity the guy who breaks into my house when my wife is here alone, lol. He will have a whole lot more than the seven original holes he came in with when he leaves... Like only 20 if he goes down before she reloads.
