Howdy folks.
I've got a crap load of .40 S&W that I was gifted, I'm a little bit famillar with an M9, I like the ballistics of .40 S&W and a thigh holster for an M9. These 4 factors tell me that I should get an M9 looking gun chambered in .40 S&W. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg because it will be occasional range use and maybe a bedside guardian backup for a 12 gauge (so it's a toy). What fits this criteria

uuuummmmmmm........the Beretta 96fs. It's the .40cal version of the 92FS/M9.

You can find po-po trade in ones relatively inexpensively too. Contact CDNN, and Summit gun broker. I'd bet you can get one for around 3 bills.

Might be hard to find a used 96 in CA. Most used handguns can't be shippped in from out of state unless if on an approved list. There is loopholes to this though such as having a parent or grandparent gift you one from out of state or finding a used one from a private seller that has one in the state.

You could also go the Taurus PT100 or 101 but the safety is different(and better IMHO)

I don't worry about CA too much. My legal home of record is in ND so I have my FFL buddy get them in at cost and he holds them until I go home on leave and I fill out the paperwork and take them back to CA (and what's not legal in CA I keep at my folks' house).
