ha, yeah, I do what I can to screw the system... legally...

I'm gonna try out one of these FFL transfer deals, just to see how I like it. I may order a Stag stripped AR lower on the web, and have it shipped to a small local shop...

just got back from a small local gun shop. He had a small Rock Island .45 (looked like 4" or even less) for $396. Very basic, milspec. manual safety, none of the fancy decockers, loaded chamber indicators, blah blah. I really liked it.

The owner also had a Ruger P345D .45 with a stainless slide, and all the fancy new stuff - decocker, loaded chamber indicator, keyhole for disabling the gun, blah blah. The Ruger had much nicer sights also - white dots. It was $409.

The owner thought the RIA's were great values, but he said for the $13 price difference, the Ruger was a better gun.

Came with a hard case, 2 mags, and a bunch of PC stuff. and it came with a sealed envelope with a fired case in it...

and a big padlock

BTW: this is my first handgun purchase in 15 years...

i looked at the ruger 45 last night and i thought for the $$ it was a hell of a deal. ide go for it for the price, seeing how that seems to a big deal on your part. if you dont like it im sure you wouldnt have problems selling the thing. the only thing i dont like about my P89 is that it is a B*#@* to get apart and you will basically break your knuckles open trying to clear a jam. other than that its one great firearm that will last a lifetime.

Bender, pick up the two guns and handle them. Which one fits your; which of the two has easier control to access, which one points more natually in your hand? Do you want a pistol with a decocker that fires DA/SA, or do you want the SA only 1911? If the Ruger fits you, and you like it better then just ignore the PC stuff that's included. If the little Rock Island fits you better and you like it better then hey, no PC stuff to ignore. Either pistol will be a fine choice and should serve you well. The only right answer is the pistol that fits you best and that you like best.

Uh, ugaarguy, Methinks Bender already bought the Ruger. I think you made a fine choice Bender. You already have a 1911 and a hipower so you have the steel old school gun thing down. I own a Ruger revolver that is very durable and though I don't own one of their semiautos, I've heard nothing but great things when it comes to their construction(built like a tank), reliability, customer service, and as you already know, price. Only bad things I ever hear is a lot of people don't like how they feel in the hand.

Perhaps I misread Bender's post. Like I said though, both are quality pistols, so either way he has or will have a very nice new handgun.

yep, bought the Ruger. I liked the small RIA, but I prefer slightly bigger guns... my pinkie was hanging off the grip... wondering what to do.

The thing I really liked about the RIA was that it was just like my old Colt... manual safety, single action, and really nothing else... plain and simple...

as I said, the ruger is my first handgun in around 15 years... I never went thru the NICS stuff until tonight.

The instruction manual is unreal. The HUGE warnings splashed over almost every single page... its like its printed for a 6 year old.

WARNING: SLIDE GOES BACK FAST. HOT BRASS EJECTS !

It seems this gun is DA on the first shot, then SA, which I like. The owner was talking to me about the new DAO guns, and said he recommends DAO guns to inexperienced shooters.

It came with a fired case. I don't know what good a fired case does for anybody... LEO or not... I mean, what's the point ?

The fired case is for certain commie states. I throw the damn things away, I refuse to pass it on if I ever sold it because I refuse to even allow for the possibility of ever being part of such a thing.

but what possible use is a fired case? Can they be used for ID purposes? I mean, like firing pin indentation or something? I don't see how.

actually some states do require the spent casing. It's for identification, particularly on the mark from the fireing pin on the primer. It doesn't work, and with millions spent and countless man hours wasted, Maryland hasn't "solved" a single crime with it. Pure bunk. Rests on the hypothesis that firing pin marks on primers are like fingerprints, which isn't really true. Not in a practical sense. Dumbasses :barf: Here's a nice discussion of the situation/problems.
