The Hornady manual lists an COAL for the 230gr Hornady XTP bullet in the 45 Auto as 1.210". (XTP bullet #45160) I usually load that bullet to 1.225".

I'm just curious, does anyone have factory Hornady 45 Auto ammo loaded with their 230gr XTP bullet who can measure the OAL and post it for me?

I appreciate the effort, thanks.

Please no lectures about OAL, load data, different guns, using the barrel and all the other things that get posted. I'm simply curious what the factory ammo is loaded to and nothing else. Thanks again...

I have some 185 grain Hornady xtp hollow points loaded to 1.200 inches. I think the bullet profile is the same on the , 200 and 230 grain bullets as well. it has been a long time ago when I loaded them but I think I got the number from the factory 185 grain loads. I know that length works just fine in my Range Officer. it also worked in a Kimber sst compact and a S & W 1911

Who among us buys factory ammo at $1.25 buck a pop? :D

Suggest you sneak into your local Cabala's with your digital calipers CCW and measure one.

It's been a long time, but 1.230 is what we came up with the last time this was asked, and I think someone measured some factory ammo. I have loaded a few at 1.230 to 1.235 OAL and they ran great. I also used 1.230 to 1.235 OAL for 230 Gr Golden Sabers and they ran great as well. I know the factory 230 Gr GS measured 1.233 +/-, and I used the same for the XTP when folks here supplied the 1.230 OAL.

Great minds think alike I see...
I brought my calipers with me last weekend when I went to Cabela's but they did not have any 230gr XTP 45 Auto ammo on the shelf! :banghead:
