hello one adn i just just came arcoss a mk 6 in a box in my attic and i was wondering were i could find some ammo for it. i also took it in and got it appraised the guy said in its condition it would be worth around $100 and that it would be better used enjoying shooting it then keeping it locked up in a box.

"worth around $100" The Mark VI goes around 600 if it's fireable - at least at the auction sites I've seen. Fiocchi makes .455 - somebody probably knows where to get it from - though your cylinder may be cut to .45 ACP.

Look at the rear of the cylinder, if the letters around the cylinder are cut in half, it's been milled to use .45 ACP in (half)moon clips.

Mk. VI's are the quintissential English revolver. If it was good enough for Higgins on Magnum, P.I, it's good enough for me. Does Old Western Scrounger handle many British loads?

I reckon reloading is best approach if possible. I had a few cases spare ages ago but bought 100 cases by Fiocchi - forget where but a web search should locate some. Maybe even Starline does some, not sure.

I cheat and use 230 grain .45 acp cast bullets but leave them large - .452 is too small ideally. I propel those with something like red dot - not as fast as Bullseye but fast enough to get the slug moving. My loads are well under max so - it is a safe gun to shoot. Very distinctive sound!

Mine was a mess initially - set of parts almost. Got new mainspring from Brownells IIRC and a topbreak lever return spring too - sadly that is not a "V" spring like original but it works after some fiddling.

I stripped entire gun and prep'd it to remove corrosion - bit of pitting here and there. Then did a six stage cold blue, gradually building up depth. Without a layer of CLP or RIG externally it can rust so - cold blue not perfect but - it ain't bad.

This is the pic .........

I believe J&G Sales may have Fiocchi in 455 Webley or it can be made from 45 Auto Rim
There is a Co. Buffalo Arms that has all kinds of brass some virgin some reformed from other calibers they have an ad in the Shotgun News on a regular basis yuo might want to check with them in Idaho IIRC

Worth about $100? Yeah, sure. He wanted to buy it from you for only $100 and sell it for a substantially more $$$. Hold onto that gun, find Fiocchi ammo and enjoy it.

From earlier post "I came across this one years ago without stocks, and before the days of "internet" to look up pics of things. I made this set myself out of a walnut drawer front and tailored them to what I thought they should look like and what felt good. I shoot it on occasion, using .45 AR cartridges (I scraped up 3 boxes years ago) and reload them with 285 Gr. L.C. bullets over a very modest charge, for an estimated 600-650 fps. They shoot great (partially I'm sure because of thye .454 Colt bullet instead of the .452 ACP bullet), and the gun is a joy. I imagine myself as Lt. Chard of Engineers in the movie "ZULU" fighting off the hoardes "

Graf & Sons (http://grafs.com I think) carries Lee carbide dies for .455 Webley, and Hornady brass: I just got some and the brass is excellent quality.

As was mentioned above, a bullet for .45acp used as-cast, without sizing, can be lubed with Lee Liquid Alox or something similar with good results.

Both Hornady and Fiocchi make factory ammo but :what: -level expensive. If just want to try shooting it once, get a box; if want to shoot it frequently, get dies & brass and go from there.

And if it's in at least decent condition, $100 is VERY low.
