I am thinking if adding a .45 to my collection. I don't have large hands so I thought a glock 36 or the springfield xd compact size. I have a glock 19 and I know their reputation. How are the springfields? I know they are made in croatia. their compact has two size mags, a long and a short. only one mag for the Glock a 6 round size.
opinions and thoughts welcome

XDm or G30sf would be great! I've never shot the full size Glock .45, but the 30 is nice.

Glock. Hands down. Reliability in all conditions. XD is a Glock with a different name.

I have larger size XL hands and love my G36. Incredible shooter. Don't know how they did it, but don't have to know either!

i own both. Its really what you like best. The glocks are easier to take all the way down but they both field strip with ease. I was a glock "hater" until i took the armorers course and realized i was being an idiot. They are both fine pistols and will out live you and probably your grandchildren. Buy one....then buy the other! You can never have too many .45s

Check out the Glock G30SF if you can...it's got a smaller grip than the standard G30, and may provide what you're looking for from Glock.

On the other hand, I have an SA XDm 3.8 .45 on my list of pistols to get this year :) It also has a match-grade barrel, so you should be able to shoot lead through it, too. You're not really suppose to do that with the Glock barrels due to leading. However there are those guys that do so without issue.

Depending on how much you want to spend, or what you're comfortable using, I'd say to investigate both. I'll follow the thread to see which way you go. Good luck on your decision!

OK thanks for the response. I will have to include the G30sf in my choices to look at.
Next stop is the gunshop to get a feel of them

Sometimes feel alone won't show you which one shoots better in your hands. If you can get them both out at the range, you might be surprised by a worse-feeling gun shooting better for you, and feel is something you can always grow into.

FWIW... Gun Tests tested it a few months back at the XDM is one of very few handguns that averaged under 1" groups at 20 or 25 yards.

I have a XD 45 full size and all i can say is that its a great gun PERIOD!Try shooting one at a range and you'll know what I'm talking about!

If you reload or plan to shoot cast lead bullets, I recommend the XDm Compact or full size over either like size Glock. Polygonal bores do not lend themselves to shooting cast lead. It can be done, but the conventional rifling of the XDm is the way to go. I shoot as many cast lead loads as I do jacketed. Furthermore, if you want to shoot SWCs you will need the XDm vs. the XD. XDs are somewhat suspect with SWCs whereas the XDm has a feature that allows you to reliably shoot SWCs. There are other reasons I prefer the XDm over the Glock so I'll just say that I own the XDm 4.5 in .45 ACP and wouldn't trade it for 2 Glocks. ;)

I will be trying my friends Glock 30 at the range later today. I don't think I will be able to get a Springfield to shoot with. Yesterday I was at my local gun store and was handling a Glock 30 and also the Glock 36 and, a full size springfield as well he didn't have the XDM 3.8 in stock. the G36 felt pretty good in my hands. I know its apples to oranges with a full size vs a compact. I liked the trigger on the springfield as well. He said he has shot both compacts Glock and springfeild and the Glock has less muzzle flip due to a lower bore axis.

The Glock 36 may have less flip but it still jumps a lot during recoil. Remember you are shooting a very lightweight .45
so the recoil is impressive so you need to hang on a little more tightly to get good follow-up shots. That being said my
G36 is very accurate and very reliable. In a super tuck holster it also carries better than just about anything I have tried.
I love my G36 :)

The Glock-36 is the only Glock I own and serves as my EDC gun. For a Small and Lightweight 45 acp it's very hard to beat. A great mild shooting CCO sized 45.

I've twice visited a gun store to buy a Glock, and both times came home with an XD. No matter how much I try to buy one, when I hold one, I just cannot deal with the grip angle, as it feels very unnatural to me. So that's the advice I give -- hold both series and see which feels more "right" in your hand! All other attributes are even enough IMO to be a wash.

XDM. If it didn't exist, I'd have to choose between Glock and S&W M&P.

Yesterday I had a Spingfield Micro Compact 45 in my hands for first time.
Today I can't imagine how I can live without one.

I'll throw another vote for the XDm. Great handgun, feels great, shoots great, reliable, and accurate. I like the 2 diffrent mag option on the Springer, the short one is nice for carry, the larger mag is nice for a back up mag, or for use at home. Also the mag has its own spacer, making it a full sized grip, not a short grip with a skinny mag hanging out of it like on the Glocks. I gave up on Glocks once I bought my first XD. I found out that so called "High Bore Axis" XD can shoot one heck of a group at the range, so I wouldn't worry about it.
