Solman,
The g36 feels a lot wider in the hand; the double stack g30sf feels thicker. But, if you have handled the g19, then I don’t think it will be a problem for you. The g30 has two recoil springs making it very easy to do follow-up shots. I like to fully grip a gun out of the holster. I found the 9 round magazine to leave my pinky dangling, the 10 round magazine fit my hand perfectly, and the 13 round magazine felt great too but would take a little more creativity to conceal.
Is the g30 a Block like Posser says? Well, if you are used to sub-compact guns or mouse guns, you could call it blocky. It is definitely not a gun you forget about. You are constantly reminded it is on your side, but it is not uncomfortable by any stretch of the imagination. As a matter of fact, the heft of the g30 is a very comforting reminder of having enough gun.
The Pros of the g30:
Reliability.
Soft Recoil.
A power house in a very acceptable size.
Magazine selection (9, 10, 13).
Decent summer carry provided you don’t wear skinny jeans.
Excellent winter carry even with a 13 round magazine.
Accurate out of the box.
The Cons:
A bit on the heavy side, but ounce for ounce it is still lighter than other guns that offer the same capacity.
Not a gun to slip in your shorts for that late night trip to the store.
No pocket carry .
Requires a good holster/belt combo.
If you are in and out of gun free zones you may consider a holster more easily removed from your person.
I’ve shot the g23, g27, g26, g19 and g21. I found the g30 softer and more accurate than all of them.
I’m glad you took it for a spin. That’s the best way to decide.
