A lot of people would like to add one to their collection and I'm no exception. I've narrowed my options down to two guns but can't decide on which to buy. My choices are the Dan Wesson Pointman7 and the Colt Special Combat Gov't.
Pointman/ Colt
_________________________________________________________________
Frame. Stainless / carbon steel
Finish. Stainless / Hard Chrome
Barrel length 5" / 5"
overall length 8.8" / 8.5"
Mag capacity 7+1 / 8+1
Hammer Commander / Commander
Trigger Aluminum / Aluminum
Sights Bomar / Bomar
Safety SA grip-extended thumb / SA grip-extended thumb
Price just under $1100 / just under $1600

Both have polished feed ramps, flared ejection ports..all the bells and whistles. I guess it comes down to reliability. I'm only going to buy one .45 so I want it to be the best I can afford.
Thanks in advance for the input.

I own a DW & a Colt --diff't models than the ones you're looking at, but still, samples from both companies. Both have been great guns, both have had their hiccups. If I were only going to have one, I would go w/ the Colt.

I've never owned a Colt Special Combat Gov't, but I have owned a couple Colts (Combat Elite and a custom 1991) and they were OK pistols, but nowhere near as nice as my DW PM7-S (Pointman Seven - Stainless). I had a very early model (#457, IIRC) and it was a fantastic gun. Fit and finish were fantastic, extremely accurate, but bad about light primer strikes with CCI primers. I could've had that fixed, but I was worried it might affect the trigger pull so I stuck to WWB and left the CCI stuff for my Kimber.

My $.02, you really can't go wrong with either one...but I'd take a DW over a Colt any day.

I have had both Colt & DW. With the exception of my Les Baer the DW is the best 1911 I nave ever owned.
