Walked into my local Big R today, which is like a Murdochs or tractor supply, and they only had ten boxes of ammo period. X5 of 6.8 Western and x5 of 30-06. I remember the first thing I ever thought, even in elk country, when I heard about this new deal was something like "HA, good luck trying to find ammo anywhere."

Don't know why, it just caught me flat-footed. Shelves are depleted where I'm at, and here it was. Almost bought it for the hell of it.

Ya, kinda cracked me up seeing a blank shelf and then a stack of brand new shiny boxes all by themselves. Nobody was looking at em like I was the only one that saw em

Found 20 boxes of 6mm Creed at Atwoods. Hornady match and Hornady Black match. Price was $24.99/20. Figured that’s a good price. But I didn’t buy it. Someone has a rifle that shoots it. I don’t.
If more people thought like you, we wouldn't be staring at empty shelves all across the country right now .

Why? Your response was helpful. In my limited exposure, I thought there might have been a 7.62mm NATO / .308 Winchester relationship occuring.

I never got to see this post. Did anybody else catch it, I was wondering if somebody was gonna reply to the fury question.

6.8 Westerner is a slightly shortened 270 WSM with longer bullets. Made for a tighter twist. Made for the knob twisters. I think my 24" 270 WSM is adequate though. The 140 gr. 277 accubond is a fine bullet.
Kinda what I gathered from my recent research after my trip to the store. I remember asking my boss about 45-70 one time. He's a well respected part time taxidermist with a bunch of huge bulls in his shop. He promptly replied with, "Ain't no place on gods green earth I won't go without muh 270. Plain and simple son. Itll do Prairie dogs to geerafs."

I was at Scheels yesterday and they had an endcap full of 6.8 Western brass. I wonder how many shooters are going to adopt the oddball calibers through all this. I also regularly find 6mm Creedmoor ammo and reloading components pretty much everywhere.

I would shoot it...
As it happened, I ended up stalking up to some 100 yd shots on whitetails this year with my 270 WSM. Though it sure did a fine job, like always, I couldn't help but think I was overgunnned a bit. But if noise is no issue, and if the rifle has a good 1" pad, go for it!

My Cabela's is the same way, two varieties of 6.8 Western and few boxes of 26 Nosler. I guess none has a 6.8 rifle yet, so no demand for the ammo yet. It would be a good time to stock up if you intended to buy a 6.8 Western though, prices were reasonable for what it is.

Ha ya, it was like $23.95. Can't even find 22lr for that :scrutiny:
