How many 327MAG will fit in an 'N' frame Smith&Wesson revolver?

You asked that question in another thread back in mid April. :) I remember answering it. Coping and pasting my response from that thread: https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/high-capacity-da-revolvers.866848/#post-11466144

"So the 627/327/R8 is a slightly modified N-frame. The barrel is moved up in the frame ~.035 inch and the circle passing through the center of all the chambers is thus ~.070-inch larger in diameter than the original 6-shot N-frame chambered in 44 Special, 38-44, .357 Mag (and a bunch of other cartridges since). So starting with a 627/327/R8 frame you could get 9 rounds of 327 Mag fairly easily with a barrel and cylinder change. On the original 6-shot N-frame you could only get 8-shots. If you move the barrel up another .035 you could safety fit 10-rds of 327 Mag in the cylinder but the shank on the barrel will have to get a bit thinner to not impinge on the top strap. Probably not a strength issue with the smaller bore size of 327 but it would be another change required.

Realistically I don't think 327 Fed has taken off enough to justify the engineering costs for it to make financial sense for S&W to do either version. A moonclip fed 10-shot 327 Mag would be pretty awesome but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it."

It doesn't really matter to me. Heck, even with double action six shooters, I only load five at the range anyway. Five rounds across, ten rows deep = 1, 50 round box of cartridges. I do the same thing with semi's even. Only load five at a time (once I establish that they work with a full magazine).

I have 5,6,7 and 8 shot revolvers. Regardless of how many holes in the cylinder, the platform remains the same.

I don't know why so many are stuck on six. When Colt first started designing his revolvers in the 1830's, they were everything but six. As were all their predecessors going back to at least 1597.

My favorites are single actions with the Colt SAA lock work, making them 5-shooters. But they are traditionally called "6-shooters". With the same lock work a "5-shooter" would have to be carried as a "4-shooter" to be safe. So, I'll stick with my six-shooters that only carry five. (smile)

Let's see, I have them in 5 and 6 shot cylinders, I guess I need to buy one each in 7 and 8.

I only ever load 5 rounds into a cylinder...
Why? Because there's 5 rounds per row in my ammo boxes and I like things even.:uhoh:
That has burned me a couple of times in competition after doing that out of habit :fire:.

When I am trying new loads at targets and/or over the chrono I do the same thing
