Do you know if Smith & Wesson and/or Ruger are going to start producing six-shot .38/.357/9mm snubbies?A six-shot 642 or SP101 would probably be a good seller. Just curious.

Plenty of 6 shot snubbies exist. Colt reigned in the market for what, 50 years, until the 5 shot Chief's Special challenged it.

The J frame isn't big enough to hold 6 rounds of .38/.35-ish diameter caliber in the cylinder. The J-frame is smaller than the Detective Special because it was meant to be. It will hold 6 .32 rounds, and some J's have been offered in that caliber, but don't sell as well.

The K frame will hold 6 rounds, but its a little bit bigger than the discontinued Colts.

Discontinued Six-Shot Colt's

Here, you will find a few examples~! :D

Top to Bottom:

Vintage '66 DS model, all original, factory blue w/2" barrel.

A 1971 DS model, all original, factory nickel w/2" barrel.

1972 first production Agent, all original, factory polished blue
(not parkerized), with 2" barrel.

BTW, the book shown Law Enforcement Handgun Digest is
from the same period of time; early '70's. Enjoy~!

Hell, S&W makes an 8-Shot snubbie too (if your point is that you want more capacity than a 5-shot J-Frame)

The .32's come in a six shooter. It's really a great round, give it a try. I put a few hundred through my SP-101 today and wish I'd had more.

No, I really don't think that the demand is there for a slightly larger and heavier pocket gun.

I believe that it would take another gun ban, that severely limits gun capacity, to see something like this happen.

You can still get splendid deals on Ruger Speed-Six revolvers. And there's never been a sexier pistol than the early Smith & Wesson 66. There are modern versions of both guns, but they are much more expensive. For some reason the newere Ruger snubs are somewhat difficult to find. I like the actions of the older Speed-Sixes.

One of the best things I ever did was buy a couple of Ruger Speed-Sixes in .38 Special. This was a number of years ago and no one wanted it in that caliber. So I turned them over to a great gunsmith in my area and he reamed the chambers for .357. This had two benefits. Even with his $50 charge per gun, the gun still was a great bargain and two, one that didn't occur to me at the time, the measurements were perfect. Thus, both guns instantly became more inherently accurate than if they'd been born that way. I could drop a .357 JHP bullet into each chamber and none of them fell through.

The 8 shotter Zundfolge posted is very nice but it does list for over $1200 so that might be a bit too much!!

S&W doesn't make a J frame with 6 shots but does have a 3" K frame Model 64 that will hold 6 rounds of .38 +P. They have a an 2.5" L frame Model 686 that will hold 6 rounds of .357/.38+P. The also have a 2.5" L frame Model 686 Plus that will hold 7 rounds of .357/.38+P so there are several .357/.38 options from S&W. If you want a little more knock down power the N frame S&W Model 325PD comes with a 2.5" barrel and holds 6 rounds of .45 ACP. (but this gun lists for almost $1,000)

I used to want a 6 shot snubbie but I don't anymore.

The only place I carry 2inch barrels or less is in a pocket and I think if I had a 6 shot snubbie I would still instead carry a slightly smaller 5 shot.

If the gun is not going to be carried in a pocket I prefer 3inches on up to giants depending on where I am at.

I will not fault anyone for wanting one however. I think as others have said that their are guns to fill this need already. The 6 shot subbies is available if you want one.

Thats MSRP. With some patience and hunting effort they can be found for $800.
