I have a friend who is trying to sell his S&W 686 pre-lock, 2 1/2 inch barrel LNIB .357. The revolver looks brand new, he is asking $450. Good price?

I'd say so, if it is truly LNIB and pre-lock.

I've seen them cheaper 'round here (CT), but not consistently, and certainly showing wear.

Thats a very good price for a superb snubby. Is it a 6 or 7 shot 686?

Take a look at the asking price for the current production 686. You are getting a superior revolver, for less money. TJ

in today's market, $450 for a S&W 686-0 through -4, 2 1/2 inch barrel in excellant condition is a very good price.

I am going to add this critter to my collection. It's LNIB, wood finger grooved S&W medallion grips, target sights, 6 shot, and mechanically checks out excellent.

Around my neck of the woods that would likely be a $600 gun.

Where do you find these good prices?

I just paid $595 for this one, and thought the price was fair:

Yes - too many here haven't seemed to notice the price increases since about 2004...:banghead:

Revolver prices over time...

Over the past 18 months I would much rather own S&W revolvers than stock certificates...

Good price for the 2.5 barrel, about right if it was a 4" barrel. I see some guys paying outrageous prices and it just adds fuel to the fire. A local add for a m626 no dash, 6", NIB, never fired, custom grips........$1600. I spit my coffee out.

I recently had a gentleman offer me a H&K P7M8 in good condition along with 3 magazines as a stright up trade for my 686 CS.

I thought about really hard for about 10 minutes, and said no.
