6th Sense - re: Home Invasion

I am not going to live my life afraid to answer my own damn front door.

If you lived out here in the sticks where we do, and had several batches of no-good-niks show up over the years - you might change your thinking.

Funny how all these long-haired guys have "just got out of the service"

I don't open the door to anyone that I haven't identified. Several times I have gone out a door on the opposite side of the house and come around the corner to see who it is.

Whne I answer the door, my Springfield "GI-45" is somewhere on my person....hip pocket, InSide Waistband, or in my hand.

But this was a new one on both of us. Last night we both had home invasion dreams with very similar elements. In the dream, we are both home but one of us goes to answer the door and is met with someone who forces their way in.

If you get Biblical or American Indian on it, dreams do have meaning. The spirits may be trying to tell ya'll something.

I had a dream involving me, Bo Derek, Stevie Nicks and a chicken last night. I hope it comes true.

I had a similar dream last night. Was in my home, some teenager broke in, i grabbed both my SA MILSPEC 1911 5" and my S&W m15-3 4" .38 and went to investigate. I saw him wandering about downstairs, and Warned him to leave or id fire. HE didnt leave, and i aimed and opend fire with the 1911. I know i hit him, but it didnt affect him. after i ran out of ammo with the 1911, he left and said something to the effect, that he will be back at some later time.

I went down stairs, and he came back. I wasnt able to get at my othe pistol, and a fist fight ensued, i ended up on the ground out side, drew my .38(mentioned above) and quickly aimed and fired 3shots at his head. Nothing happend. In my dream he was standing over me.

Then, i thought i had woken up. I heard that kids voice, in my door way, saying "well well well..." in a evil maniacle voice. I had this sudden intense feeling of fear, and I tried to talk but couldnt, I then woke up, the visage of my room giving way to the darkness of my closed eyelids. It seems after i woke up for real i was able to move again. First thing i did was look up and saw no one.

Not sure how to interpret this dream.. Why my primary agitator was a white, scrawny teenager, and why none of the 12 shots i fired at him worked. (1911 with 8+1 and 3 shots .38)

We have dogs that are usually pretty alert to anything unusual going on - however one of them is going a little deaf. Our other dog, however, has hearing that is quite good and she alerts the other one. They are both good watchdog types. They are our "alarm system".

We've definitely taken this as a warning of sorts, and we've made some changes regarding our home security as a result. The biggest changes are the ready availability of firearms (nightstand drawer just isn't accessible enough for our liking) and most importantly in adopting a more security-minded way of thinking, especially when there is someone at the door.

I am NOT a dream interpreter. That said this particular dream speaks to me of a husband & wife who aren't sure that they can count on there partner to support them in time of crisis ( the home invasion simply symbolises crisis in this instance) it also speaks of a wife who feels that her opinion isn't valued ( she speaks but is not heard) & a husband who doesn't quite know how to express himself ( he tries to speak but can't) . Anyway that's my take please remember that my "advice" is worth EXACTLY what you paid for it.

That sounds like a combination of "ignore it and it'll go away" and the kid who covers his eyes and says "I can't see you so you can't see me".

I carry even at home. There is nothing paranoid about checking to see who is at the door before opening it. If it is a stranger I talk to them through the door and to one side with my hand on my gun ready to draw if needed. I knew a man once who was killed by two thugs using the old "our car broke down, can we use your phone" ploy. If I don't know you you are not getting in.

After laughing off the idea of the bedside holster for months, I finally decided to give a homemade version a try after thinking I heard someone outside the window one night. All I did was clip an inexpensive nylon holster (would need one for a lefty if you sleep on the left side of the bed) to the side rail on the bed, and it makes it a lot easier to get to your weapon immediately and discreetly.

I've been dreaming about those Readers Digest folks knocking on my door for years...no one's showed yet...but I'll be ready when they do.

Seriously though, I do take some stock in dreams. If nothing else, they are your subconscious thoughts working overtime...and there might be valid reasons for you to listen.

You should try being a twin. While we aren't identical twins, being fraternal, we still scare the crap out of alot of people because we can and do finish each other's sentences.... I never believed in ESP, but I tell ya, we got a good telecommunication system going.

Update:

Wife had another dream last night about a prowler. I was awake and heard her say out loud in her sleep "get the gun!" Very VERY unusual for her to talk in her sleep, this was an especially vivid dream experience.

We have gotten some firearms placed strategicly around the house now, for quick access, just in case. This is pretty unusual because we normally feel very safe here. When the helicopters go over (repeatedly) and they are looking for someone, we just set one out near wherever we happen to be. Then they get put away again when things settle down. Now we are keeping them handy all the time.

Still watching our personal security closely. Will inform any new events.
