Picked up a Colt New Frontier .22 Mag Buntline which has a 7.5 inch bbl. Has anyone clocked .22 Mag ammo from a bbl of that length? How about from an 8 and 3/8ths S&W .22 Mag which should be just a bit faster, but just a bit because the Colt has an excellent b/c gap compared to most Smiths.

I don't think S&W made a 22wmr in 8 3/8", I may be wrong. Here is some chrono results from a Savage Striker in 22wmr with a 10" barrel via Andy Moe
JHO field writer & pro staff.

Velocity Tables
Federal 40 grain FMJ: 1730 ft/sec.
CCI 40 grain FMJ: 1710 ft/sec.
PMC ”Predator” JHP: 1680 ft/sec.
Federal/Sierra 30 gr. HP: 1990 ft/sec

All velocities taken at 10 feet using a Chrony Chronograph.
Rounded down to the nearest 10 ft/sec.

And yet some more pistol chrono results:

Hope this helped.

Thanks, guys.

Noid, the S&W Model 48 is a .22 Mag. It came with 4,6 and 8 3/8 inch bbls.

I had never realized that as I simply just haven't ever seen one. Oh that's just great, yet another gun to add to the wish list...gee thanks.. :)
