Looking to get a pistol in 7.62x25. Only thing that comes to my mind are the CZ-52 & TT-33. Any other pistols on the market in this caliber?

Not in the US. There is one made in Turkey and sold in Europe but has not AFAIK been imported.

fantastic round, i just wish we had more options. Guess my two CZ52s will have to suffice.

the problem is the cost to design such a thing would probably make it cost us $700 a piece and then we would all be on here bitching about how cheap a CZ52 is in comparison.

I would not be bitching. I sometimes feel that some people live their life like these guys.

"Semi autos aren't as reliable as a revolver."
"Lets get a revolver."
"They don't carry enough rounds."
"Well then lets get a semi auto."

And on it goes....

Legally a semi-auto pistol (welded folded stock)

Ok, the CZ & the tokarev are my only 2 options... side by side which is better & which one would yall recommend?

I'll end up owing both but for now I can only get one.

I have a Polish Wz-48 (tok) and it is awesome! Fit and finish are 1st class. It is super reliable and very very accurate. The tok gets my vote.

I recommend the TT. They are built tougher then the CZs, so they can handle the pressures of the x25 better, their operating system is your standard browning caming barrel almost strait off of a 1911, the magazine feed lips are built into the gun, so most any mags should work with them, and the grip front is very is within a degree of the angle of a 1911, making it more intuitive pointer. Plus the angle works nicely with the recoil to snap the gun back on target after each shot. The current crop of Romanians is also built to very good tolerances making accuracy superb.

um what? sorry but the TT is not built to handle the 7.62x25 round better then the CZ. The CZ was built to fire hot submachine gun ammo that would blow out a TT. The TT might have superior ergonomics, but it is not a stronger gun.

There is also a Yugo M 57. I have seen pictures and heard of the possibility of getting them, but I have not seen any in my internetting.

Reason a CZ is a worse gun is because its chamber is much thinner. Less metal = less strength. Most 7.62x25 aficionados that I've talked with seem agree that the TT, with its much beefier construction, can much better handle the pressure then the CZ.

I have heard of CZ kb!s with x25, I've heard of people trying to KB TT's which often resulted in failure. Even after doing dumb things like intentionally putting a 9mm in a x25 chamber. The latter was done, intentionally, by a member of this board whose line of work is destructive testing of industrial products. He did rather strange things such as ream out the chamber, put a .38 super, hide behind a berm, and pull the trigger with a cord. Result was TT-1 .38 super-0.

As for this "myth" of 7.62x25 sub-machine gun ammo. Its just that, a myth. The Com-block never loaded any x25 different. Some may have been loaded hotter, but none was specially loaded for SMGs.

I'd even wager that if TT SMG-only ammo existed it would actually be cooler then pistol ammo, because it would be loaded with a slower powder to better take advantage of the longer SMG barrel, thus you'd get a massive flash behind a slower bullet, equal or lower pressures, due to premature uncorking of the barrel.

I've got a couple of the Yugo Tokes. Really, really neat guns. Longer grip than the TT-33 due to higher capacity (9+1). They are also imported with a retrofitted safety that is worth a damn.

The CZ was built to fire hot submachine gun ammo that would blow out a TT
that's wrong. In Czechoslovak service, the issue Vz.52 pistols developed frame cracks after firing 3-5 thousands of the 7.62 Pi subgun-type rounds. They also have decocker mechanisms which are unsafe and may result in AD if hammer is dropped over loaded chamber

I have to agree with Shear_stress, the Yugo Tok is one great handgun. I own a Romanian, a Chinese, and 2 Yugo Toks. The safety on the Yugo is the only one I trust for carry.

I've converted a Chinese 9mm Tok barrel to fire the 9x23 Winchester round in my Romanian. The 9x23 Winchester is the ballistic duplicate of the .357 Magnum and runs about 50,000 CUP. No problems at all firing it in the Tok. I wouldn't dream of doing that with the CZ-52.

My CZ52 is a outstanding shooter. I've shot 2.25 inch 50 yard groups with mine. BUT the design of the grip and frame makes mag changes iffy. The Tokarev is a much better design. The CZ52 also has very thin chamber walls. While the lock up may be a very strong design the barrel is left wanting. I would personally get the Tok.

Do like I did and probably most 7.62x25 owners have done and get both. The TT is a nice gun although it feels like something Tonka would have made. Like a Tonka truck it will take a lot of abuse. The CZ feels more refined but is somewhat more bulky. I enjoy shooting both of them a bunch and would not like to have just one of either.

After reading everyone's response I have decided to do with the tokarev What's the average cost of one right now? I've seen some on gun broker going for 300-350. Last time I remeber seeing one at a gun show it was half that. I checked the local gun stores & pawn shops & no one has them in my area. Anyone know where I may be able to find one online for a good price?

J&G has Romanian TT's in stock for $200 +$10 for best of 5, plus S&H, of course. So add about $50 on top for S&H, and FFL fees.

7.62 x 25 caliber pistols

The CZ-52 is by far the better of the two guns. But understand it is no "pocket pistol". And at under $200 (even retail) it is a buy. Plenty of cheap surplus ammo available.
