former... FORMER MARINE!

good shoot, and great job "taking the law into your own hands", if only everyone was that responsible. Semper Fi Lovell.

I don't understand what the problem with the "took the law into his own hands"-phrase is, but I love the story. Especially the fact that he was a soldier and obviously still knows how to use his guns. He stood alone against two armed robbers after all:eek: I wish we could carry firearms for self-defence here too:(

I would have said "in fear of his life" but oh well :banghead:

Whenever I hear that "law into his own hands" garbage I picture Judge Dredd in that awful Stallone movie saying "I AM THE LAW"

Just out of curiosity, I wonder what the robbers were shot with...one kid was shot in the chest and managed to run 300 yards before being caught by police.

I wonder the same thing, but for a different reason. This guy was able to shoot two other guys who already had their weapons out. I expect it was a combination of things; they never expected one of the victims to have a gun, they were unskilled with their weapons, he was very skilled with his. I'd still like to know what he used though. I wonder if this information is easily obtained...

According to the below article, it was a .45

. Be warned, if you thought the first article was slanted with the phrase "took the law in his own hands" you may not want to read this one. The author thought it appropriate to point out the Marine/hero's 1 arrest for unlicensed gun possession; while the "victims" families portray the robbers as "former" troubled souls who were turning their lives around and didn't deserved to be "murdered"...

I would argue that the law is always in our hands. We citizens own the law. It misbehaves a lot, unfortunately, but it's ultimately ours, right?

How true! I like that phrase. I might just use it for a tag line, if you don't mind.

She and her husband, Ivory Jones, pastor of a Fort Lauderdale church, sat on their front porch in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday wondering how a man could shoot two people and not go to jail.

Hey granny, the hero isn't going to jail because your grandson and another thug had decided to pursue a life of violent crime. Maybe your "pastor" husband can direct you to the relevant Scriptures for some clue as to where your neer-do-well ("reprobate" is a good theological term but I am not sure that you have enough background to understand it) grandson went wrong.

"retired ex-Marine"? So he's no longer an ex-Marine?
LOL. Good catch on that phrase. I guess the reporter is trying to say he was an ex-Marine, but now he's retired, so that makes him a ..... Gee, I really can't guess what that would make him.
A hero.

Remember folks, one-shot-stop is a lucky happenstance not a reliable action. It doesn't really matter what you shoot someone/something with, if you miss the vitals it's going to take them a LONG time to go down (even longer with animals who generally don't realize how badly they are injured and keep going).

unless its a .45...

Yep, a grand old, but young, Hero

Quote: One customer, who stopped by the restaurant as the incident was taking place, had this to say to NBC 6's Tisha Lewis:

"If I came by five or 10 minutes earlier, *they could have caused a situation where *they could have shot me. A lot of things went through my mind," Sebastian Shakespeare said.
--------------------------------------
...

*They? *Is he talking about the 2 thugs, with guns, pointing at customers heads as they robbed them, forcing them into a bathroom, and God knows, what else they would have done if someone refused to give up a wedding ring, etc.

Or does that bland statement also include, (I hope not) a "retired" Marine, and Pilot, who had, and has, "a sharp mind", with skills and reflexes that shined that day, with one shot in the head (does it get any better?) and the other COM (on the money) on the other bad guy, who then turned and ran out.

I hope I'm that sharp at 71 when (and if) I get there..

~ Salute ~ to a hero :)

Marine-trained, and the reflex's of a great PIC, Pilot in Command, that makes decisions, in the blink of an eye, that saves lives, as opposed to those that would "think about it long, would, and will, play it wrong".. IMO, in a given life or death situation.

"I knew you were going to say that!"

Before someone writes and says they were only interested in robbing the customers; why were they being herded into a bathroom?

Before someone writes and says they were only interested in robbing the customers; why were they being herded into a bathroom?

Because the two robbers knew that cameras are not allowed in public restrooms. That way they could shoot them all without it being filmed.
If caught later, they could plead that they may have robbed the place, but they didnt shoot anyone. They could plead that someone else came in later and shot everyone. Reasonable doubt defense.

Reasonable doubt?

If I were on such a jury, I would not buy this defense, especially after seeing the perps herd averyone who ended up dead into the toilet. Ain't no shadow of a doubt there...

And the best story of the week goes to.....................This one.

Thats so awesome that the POS that survived is getting charged with murder, so we one less scumbag on the streets for a long, long time.

I never said they were smart...

Gotta love the grandparents:

They said their grandson sometimes hung with the wrong crowd but never got into legal trouble. According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, he has no arrest record. They said Gadson, who never finished high school, got tired of low-wage jobs and was pursuing his GED.

Yeah - he got tired of low wage jobs and started robbing people instead - hire paying gig, but apparently a shorter life expectancy than working for minimum wage.

licensed gun
The point? Would the crime being stopped by an "unlicensed" gun make a difference?

that's when he took the law into his own hands.

So defending yourself is now taking the law into your own hands. Go figure.

Still a good story though . Hope I'm that "spry" and alert when I'm his age . Good for him .

"The victim believed he would be executed and when he noticed [Arrindell] distracted ... reached behind his back, removed his loaded .45 caliber handgun from his holster and fired seven rounds," the statement said.

hmmm I wonder what THAT could be?
*cough*
1911
*cough*

I would not want to be hit with ANY bullet in the chest (or head), nevermind a .45! :uhoh:

I don't have any hard numbers to back up my theory, but I do beleive that since the hurricanes a few years back more and more law abbiding citizens in FL are arming themselves. Lots of my friends, family, and neighbors have come to me for advice on handgun purchases. The local gun shops seem to be doing well in spite of many other industries in my area reporting record poor sales. If I was a criminal in FL i'd look for a new profession or move. Especially now that tht we aren't hindered by ridiculous "duty to retreat" laws.

An old Marine plus .45acp equals hero

They said their grandson sometimes hung with the wrong crowd but never got into legal trouble.

Translated= he never got caught before.

I have a feeling someone is starting to realize they do not live in NYC anymore.

Notice how the paper chose the phrase "took the law in his own hands." You can tell whoever wrote this doesn't think much of self-defense.
I don't think you needed to include the "of self-defense" part. Take that out and you get..
