Just sold my Heym 7x57 and bought a Sauer 202 in 7x64. I have a pot of H4895 (not ideal) and can only get Alliant powders here in the UK (thanks Obama). 4950 would be ideal but no chance at the moment. I can only find reduced 280 Rem loads for the 7x64 with the above powders all of which are a bit slow . Specifically looking for a fast flat load (3000fps+) with Nosler BTH 120gr , 140gr ,Hornady 120gr vmax and 130gr interbond but will take any info you have ( any bullet any powder ) for future reference.

Many thanks Steve

I have a CZ550 in 7x64. I have used IMR4350, H414, IMR4831, H4831, and now RL17. Try to find Ken Waters 7x64 article. I dont load anything lighter than 150 grains in it.

Reloader 22 should also do exceptional in it.

I just recently worked up a load with RL17 and 160 Speers. First time I worked with RL17. I was impressed (.45" group). An older load of IMR4350/150 Nosler BT's was equally as accurate.

The 7x64 & the 280 are close enough that 280 data can be used in a 7x64 & indeed some manuals, certainly in this part of the world lump the 2 together. 7x64s, being European, can often have a longer throat & so are a bit less liable to high pressures with 280 data & the 280 is loaded to lower pressure than the 270 win for instance so you should be fine with 280 data but take it easy, don't go straight for max loads, work up to a top load & you should be fine. I load for a 7x64, guess where I go for my base data.;)

What powders and bullets do you find work best in yours Shinz ? Do you load to the lands or give it a bit of jump ?

To begin with I shot Norma factory 150 grainers, in it, mostly at the range but it effectively anchored a few red deer years ago when I used to get out more before the demands of family & job slowed me up a bit. I was never that happy with the way the Normas damaged meat though. I've tried some 150gr Rem Corelokt in front of AR2209 (H4350) which were better, I'd need to go look up my data before I can tell you that, which will also mean I'd have to find it,:( watch this space. I can't get Corelokts anymore, they were a bulk lot & I bought them on price but would buy them again if I could get them. I've laid in some 154 grain Hornady Interlock bullets & seeing as I'm pretty much out of AR2209 but have several cans of IMR4381 I'll set to & work up a load with that. The manuals indicate it should do the trick. I don't demand the ultimate top load, prefering to go for ease of extraction & also believe that these kind of bullets work better not pushed too fast, having said that, I'm still well ahead of 7x57 & 7mm08 velocities with the same weight bullets. I've used 280 rem data as my start point for these loads. I've not looked at where my bullets are with respect to the lands, I load to fit the mag & reliable feeding, my rifle is a rebarrllled VZ33 with a slim tube & adequately accurate rather than a tack driver.
