Head to Head: Practical Big Game Hunting Rifles

LOL good one :D It is so abusrd, TKO is caveman physics. BIG BULLET MAKE BIG HOLE UG. Nevermind the fact that my 6.5x55 has made some monster 5" exit wounds, and I have seen a 25-06 leave a cannon ball sized hole on the far side of a deer (looked like somthing out of a SAW movie no kidding). Do they really not understand that a bullet traveling at 2700+fps in a fluid enviroment is a very dynamic event. It is not as simple as a 45 cal bullet makes a 45 cal hole. I found a very interesting test that compared a 1oz 12 ga slug at 2200fps to a plane jane 150gr 30-30 at point blank range. Despite haveing 1/4 the TKO factor and less KE the 30-30 did considerably more damage, AND penatrated deeper then the slug. If anyone could put any faith in TKO after seeing that they are blind and dumb.

Brother Kachok,

Generally speaking it is not uncommon to find those with whom you may disagree. Whilst you and myself may think that the 6.5x55 is a wonderful cartridge, not everyone will agree with us....
Which is why it is not flooding the market.

The same can be said for various methods of determining which particular cartridge we may favor. Or even what type of bullet we may favor for that matter.

Some of us hunt in areas where deer are medium size game and even then only located in certain areas. Thus favoring something for larger and potentially more dangerous game. (One reason why the 308win is not a big seller in Alaska since it too is considered marginal, while the 30-06, 338 Win Mag, 375HH and 45-70 are well sold constants)

Then there are those like myself who hunt in various locales, such as the occasional African or Siberian trip. Thus insuring an excuse to our spouses for multiple firearms and multiple chamberings.

Like Fords and Chevys, Blondes and Redheads, there will always be a different flavor available to those whom have acquired a different taste. There is no reason to get your knickers in a twist when engaged in civil discord with those with whom you disagree.

Don't get me wrong there is nothing in the world wrong with larger caliber rifles sir. They certainly do have their place but I see people on these forums that think because their 45ACP has the same TKO as a small caliber rifle that means it is a perfectly suitable hunting weapon, that insanity has to stop, I will never sit back and listen to some misinformed internet hunters encourage a new hunter to make that his weapon of choice. That is not an ethical big game hunting weapon and any formula that says it is has to be debunked. I hope you are not taking this personal because it is not directed at you. If using your old 50cal monster gun makes you happy and provides quick ethical kill then by all mean use it, and be proud of it. That is plenty effective by any fomula and more importantly is proven over and over again during the last century. Heck I would use one just for nostalgia sake if my shoulder could bare it.
