So far back in the WV hills that they have to pipe
so ive come to own a 1891 argintine cavalry carbine in 7.65x53 argintine. ive
got 10 rounds of surplus and thats it.

i think i can run 8x57 up in a 7.65 resize die and trim it or vice versa to make the cases i need.
so there is my question. can i do that or should i trim it first. how should i go about the conversion of brass? or should i look for reloadable brass in the propper caliber?

any help would be great.

I have NOT done this but it should be possible. 8mm is the same head diameter and is longer head to shoulder so you would not have to worry about tricks to set cartridge headspace.

I would do it in several steps, screwing the sizing die down farther and redistributing the case lube each time. Trim after sizing, the reforming will affect length.

If you have an 8mm rifle in the house you must be careful to keep the reformed 7.65 marked and separate. I don't know what would happen if you shot a 7.65 cartridge in an 8mm rifle and don't want to find out.

It should be possible due to my observing/helping someone reform 30-06 brass to the Argentine cartridge...lots of trimming, but all you could do...

the 8mm would be a much better choice, however...

I've converted 30-06, 8x57 and 7x57 brass to 7.65x53. The 7x57 was the easiest to do as it is little more than a quick trim and running the case over the 7.65x53 expander ball in the sizing die. The 30-06 was the hardest and required an intermediate sizing. For both the 8x57 and 7x57, I trimmed first, then sized. A lot of lube and everything worked okay. Note that you MUST check the thickness of the neck walls on the final cases as you will be well into the shoulder of the 8x57 case and on into the body if you use 30-06.

Graf and Sons (www.grafs.com) has 7.65x53 brass available for $28.99 per 100. That would save a lot of work!
