While out purchasing some new rifle cases this morning the owner of the shop told me he has been unable to order any Beretta 90-TWO pistols for a while. When I got home, I looked on Beretta's website for any news releases related to the subject. I didn't find any, but did notice something else. The 90-TWO pistols are missing from their product lineup along with the M9 and M9A1. In their place are something new, the 92A1 and 96A1.

Has anyone heard anything 'official' about what's going on?

What the hell? I'll have to go check that out, seems like a nasty trick to be pulling on their old flagship.

Ah...
A. Higher capacity magazines: 17 rounds in 9mm. Completely interchangeable with other 92 family magazines. THREE magazines included per pistol.
B. Removable front sight: Allows the user to easily replace a damaged sight or replace it with an accessory sight.
C. Accessory rail: The frame of the A1’s have an integral MIL-STD-1913 rail for rapid attachment of tactical lights and laser aiming devices.
D. Internal recoil buffer: Increases service life by reducing stress on the receiver created by the more powerful .40 S&W caliber ammunition.
E. Captive recoil spring assembly: The single-piece design simplifies the assembly and disassembly process and minimizes the possibility of spring loss.
F. Rounded trigger guard: Updated styling to conform with current pistol gripping practices.

I don't like the rounded trigger guard just for aesthetic reasons; I never use the scooped trigger guard on my 92FS.

About time they started dovetailing the front sight.

I didn't like the 90-TWO much at first, either. After renting one a couple of times it grew on me quite a bit. Whoever thought of the name deserves a swift kick in the rear, however.

It looks like the 92A1 has the "fat chin" rail of the 90-TWO, the dovetailed front sight, the internal recoil buffer, captive guide rod, and the 17 round magazines. It also has the round trigger guard of the older 92 series.

I just downloaded the 2010 brochure and it still lists the 92FS, M9, M9A1, and both the 90-TWO pistols.

I think some of the folks are confusing the 90-TWO and the 92. Two different pistols, and too many "twos", too. :scrutiny:
