= $95 = Viridian Serac 6-24x50 (30mm tube) - Natchez Tax Refund Sale

My buddy is ordering a couple of them....I decided to pass as I have more than a few scopes in this power range, but since he's getting them Ill still get some hands on with one....hopefully before they are gone, incase I decide I really need another 6-24 lol.

......Id be the subtensions on the new reticle are in mils.....looks too wide to be MOA, especially for the numbering.
So you think the old LRR reticle is MOA and new VFD-2 reticle is mils?

Viridian Serac VFD-2 SFP reticle (To me, looks fairly close to Vortex ECR-1 MOA SFP reticle)
Yeah it does look pretty close
Thanks for the pics of the reticles @LiveLife. We still don't know if the new one is moa or mil though hey?
I couldn't find much about the reticles (I still don't know what VFD even means). My best guess is MOA.
I decided to contact Viridian Weapon Technologies/Viridian Optics customer service and ask what LRR/VFD stand for and how the discontinued/closed out Serac 6-24x50 model will be warranty supported.

Had a nice chat with follow up email and it was confirmed that if there was no longer available warranty replacement units, other comparable units on hand will be used:

Hello John,
Thank you for reaching out!
LRR usually stand for Long Range Reticle while VFD is Variable Frequency Drive. This scope is in MOA.
As for the warranty, the product is still covered within the limited lifetime warranty. Though this model has been discontinued, we have several units set aside in case a warranty is needed.
Do not hesitate to reach out anytime if you have concerns.
Respectfully,
Mark

That's what VFD means to me as well, but never thought it related to a scope.
Me either. I still think it’s possible that the rep (Mark) didn’t actually know what it was and just googled what VFD means and bloviated, hoping this pesky customer didn’t know what a Variable Frequency Drive is.

Or, another scenario, Mark is in his office, gets an email, doesn’t know what a VFD is, and hollers out to the office, “WHAT‘S A VFD?” to all his coworkers. Someone (George) helpfully shouts back, without any context, “VARIABLE FREQUENCY DRIVE!” (This is how we do it in my office.) Mark then sends the email with George’s info, and nobody is the wiser. Really. Nobody is any wiser, because the wrong info got passed along inadvertently.

I figured that's likely what may have happened but the real reason why I contacted customer service was whether Viridian would provide warranty support for discontinued Serac model as their "Warranty Information" page said this which I included in my email and pointed out during my phone call - https://viridianoptics.com/support/warranty-information.html

"... Warranty does not apply to discontinued or closeout items."

Glad to have verbal and follow up email confirmation that Viridian would continue to provide lifetime warranty service for 6-24x50 model - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...z-tax-refund-sale.929399/page-6#post-12884715

So for me, it really doesn't matter what "VFD" stands for. :)

Just to throw my 2 cents in, what about VFD= variable focal distances? I know we call it parallax, but someone could be trying to make it sound fancy.
My 4 came in yesterday, BIG box with enough packing to refloat the Titanic, I opened one and the parallax adjustment is TIGHT, I like the clarity and the reticle, I'm not familiar with the turret lock so that will be a learning curve (kind of a thumb screw instead of lift to unlock), instruction book is lacking, like others my flip cap is very loose especially after adjusting the focus, this thing is a little longer than I thought, I'll mount one on a 20" AR and another on a Savage Axis in 223, the others will be used as needed. I feel they are easily worth the $95 but at the retail price I think there are other options that I would look at

$95 ... I think there are other options that I would look at
Not too many 30mm tube 6-24x50 scopes with 1/8 MOA locking external turrets at $95 with backing of major brand name OEM supplier like Ruger 10/22 - https://www.gunsamerica.com/digest/ruger-10-22-viridian-3-9x40-22-ammo-and-more/

With lens quality/clarity/brightness comparable to Vortex Crossfire II 6-24x50 and turrets with better positive clicks than Vortex Strike Eagle 4-24x50/Athlon Argos 10-40x56, what other options are there?

I just put a Vortex Venom on my 22lr for $350 shipped, Strike Eagle on my 6.5CM for $550 shipped, both from A&A optics, I know those aren't retail prices just prices I've been able to find.

Vortex Venom ... $350 ... Strike Eagle ... $550
I thought we were talking about around $95 price point ... And they still have 1/4 MOA turrets, not 1/8 MOA of Serac and Athlon Argos. I also have Strike Eagle 4-24x50 and Serac turrets have better positive clicks than Strike Eagle/Athlon Argos.

I was comparing their retail verses other options, I agree about the $95 price point these would be hard to beat, I think even at the $150-200 price point these would be hard to beat, over $200 I think FFP comes into the options, that is why I bought 4

Looks like Viridian replaced Serac 6-24x50 with Antero 5-30x56 with larger 56mm objective lens, illuminated BDC reticle and parallax down to 10 yards (Compared to 25 yards for Serac) and priced competitively at $324 - https://www.opticsplanet.com/optics...technologies-antero-5-30x56mm-rifle-scop.html

Just for information, a second set of rings made it in and I clamped this one in the vise to box test it and see what it was capable of. Should have went out in the field to make it an even 100 yards but I have other stuff to to before dark.

and a tape measure held by an old dolly that was in the right place at the right time, 34 yards from the vise.

I get, a total of, 17.75 inches of elevation and 17.25 windage. Repeatable moment, and the turret locks do not effect adjustment.

If it holds up to rattling around... Looks good so far.

So about 50moa......which is pretty decent. If it tracks well that adjustment range will be useful
