If we are talking about FMJ rounds, which will penetrate further through construction materials (i.e., walls) 124g moving at 1150 fps or 147g moving at 950 fps?

What about if we compare hollow points of both?

What about if we compare a 124g hollow point at 1150 fps to a 147g FMJ at 950 fps?

Penetration

I won't attempt to answer the post as it would be from an untrustworthy aged memory. However I will direct you to a site. I think the web site "Box Of Truth" did penetration test with several different calibers of pistols and rifles.

I remember being absolutely astounded by their results for 9mm hard ball. No wonder the Germans successfully killed so many with arms chambered in 9mm.
Penetration kills things. After reading their test. I no longer thought a book or two in a school back pack. Would stop 9mm rounds if School children simply ran away. Think 30-06 penetration results.

Penetration

I went to "Box Of Truth" and the site is now huge. I found penetration of rifle & pistol ammo into dry phone books. You can read that test here:

http://www.theboxotruth.com/the-box-o-truth-31-the-books-o-truth/

Seems the 9mm ball penetrated 7 inches. Many pistols penetrate as little as 1" or so. Some rifles penetrate less than a 9mm ball. In this test a 30-06 rifle penetrated 17 inches with armor piercing full metal military ammo. I believe there are test somewhere on Box of Truth that show 180 grain 30-06 hunting ammo penetrating 8 inches or so in dry phone books. The bottom line is 9mm is a penetrating little devil.

The near infinite variables of how many studs it hits, whether it hits wiring or an outlet box, would have way more impact than 124g vs 147g. I wouldn't be surprised if a test showed no statistical difference between the 2.

Nobody can answer for sure unless they find a test of both or do one themselves...

The Hornady 135 gr FTx is rated very high. Thats what i got in my P6.

averaging 1187 fps from my XD 9 4" Service with 147 grain +P.
