1+ for the Beretta CX4. Great for us lefties ( and righties too of course) and probably one of the most purely fun guns to shoot I own. Everyone I have let shoot mine has gone out and bought their own.

beretta cx-4; best on the market. All ambidextrous controls...
The OP specified $450 or less. If you know of a place to get one for that price, sign me up!

Wife loves her CX4. I actually prefer the Ruger. Oh well.

The last CX4 I saw for sale was going for $795 new.

Best price I have seen at a local shop for a Cx4 was $675.00 new. I bought one and it was worth it to me. You can get them that take the 92FS mags or the Px4 mags. 92 mags are pretty cheap for hicaps. I would think a Cx4 on the used market would be a good deal, but I never could find one used...could be an indication of it's quality and fun factor??? I got one that takes the same mags as my Px4...it's my favorite pistol/rifle combo.

What about this? $299 with two 30 rnd magazines......

Kel-Tec Sub2K.

Mine is light, reliable, accurate, and it folds to fit into a laptop case. Takes inexpensive Glock mags.

If that's cheesy, give me more cheese.

I can't understand the thinking involved with "If you want to trust your life to a $100 gun", We're not talking about the pistols but the 9mm carbines. I know they are ugly as sin but by god they perform every time and if they ever don't you send them back and they will. life time for free. I've put thousands of rounds through mine without any problems. I've put an ATI stock on it with a Tasco very old Pro-Point and it hits 8" targets at 100 yds all day.
If police had them in North Hollywood those two robbers wouldn't have left parking lot. Based upon my military and security training you want what is absolutely dependable not what is absolutely most expensive or has absolutely the best brand snob appeal.
Quit trashing a product you've not even tried.

I really liked the Ruger carbines PC9 & PC4. Wish they would start making them again, only modify it so it could take the new SR9 magazines too.

It felt good & solid! Just like you want a pistol carbine to be for close quarters. Nothing like a good whack over the head!;)

I like my Hipoint. It's pretty ugly, though in an endearing manner, surprisingly ergonomic and it's really fun to shoot. It had a few hiccups the first one hundred rounds, but it's been reliable since then. Only real downsides are the limited magazine capacity, and it's a real PITA to take apart.

Hipoints are okay but doesn't the Hipoint manual say not to disassemble the carbine?

Don't recall that it says that but you can be sure it doesn't give the full skinny on getting it back together!

I had never seen where to get one of those Ruger carbines but have always wanred one. May have to do the Ruger pistol/carbine combo instead of the HiPoint...
