Well folks, I just dumped off my Taurus PT 145 after having issues with it returning to battery after 1-2 shots. This is after a 4 month ordeal in trying to get a part from Taurus after the initial one failed (after shooting +P through it).

So, I decided that I need a replacement and for some reason, the 9MM compacts have caught my interest. I think I have got it down to a few choices:

Kahr PM-9
Kel-Tec PF-9
Glock 26
Springfield XD9Compact
Other (please list in post)

Please vote and let me know what you think.

Thanks!

In a compact, I like the steel Kahr K9 the best. I also like the Browning Hi-Power and I don't find it anymore difficult to conceal the Browning than the Kahr.

I voted Glock 26, but as Doc2005 pointed out to me the G19 isn't very much bigger and will offer both a longer sight plane and 50 percent more ammunition.

Walther P99 AS

The Walther P99 AS in 9 mm is my favorite carry, Why? because it only weights 18.7 oz.,holds 10+1, is as accurate as my Sig P226 and more than my Beretta 92FS, but much lighter and more comfortable to carry.
I like the Glock 26, however, I and several other guy's (4) test fired the glock 26 and walther P99 AS, all agreed (including the owner of the Glock) the Walther was more accurate and had less recoil than the Glock.
Three of the 4 guys now carry the Walther P99 AS.
I think he biggest difference in these 2 guns is the Walther has a decocker and the Glock doesn't.

Sigbear

I HAD a Kahr P9 . . . horrid little gun, all kinds of problems. Kahr ultimately replaced it, I traded the replacement (unfired) for a Glock 26.

The G26 isn't as neat a package, but it has the virtue of actually WORKING!

I've been quite happy with my PF-9. It has been reliable and more accurate than expected, but mostly it is just so thin and light that you almost forget it's there. The Kahr is slightly shorter, but thicker and heavier with a 100% higher price tag. I honestly believe Kel-Tec offers about the best cost-benefit ratio out there, and some of the most innovative products to boot.

Compacts...umm

Older Smith & Wesson 3913, proven , works, and just a great gun.

P-11 "we " use, for what we do. None of us do glocks, XDs or Kahrs...especially the poly ones.

Not a Compact 9mm is the NAA .32ACP.
The Older J frames, like 36, 37, and 38 is what "we do" as well.

Fact is, the bone stock 1911 Lt weight Commander, is real popular.
WE do NOT do any 1911 shorter than Commander size.

Ladies like to CCW these LT weight Commanders.

Then again THE 9mm gun is a BHP, everything else is just a wannabe...;)

I'd say go with the largest gun you can comfortably conceal. In our hot weather it the PM40 for me, so I voted PM9. But if you can conceal a larger gun go with it.

Now, if you said compact and meant compact and said 9mm, then....R9

Here's my XD 9mm Sub-Compact that I carry from time to time when I want to switch from my Glock 29.

I went with XD simply because my XD9 Tactical has been great through many hundreds (probably thousands) of rounds in IDPA and practice. Personal preference, I wouldn't have a Glock for carrying, they don't point well for me and I appreciate the grip safety on the XD. The tiny little 9's may conceal well, but I find the recoil a little too brisk to practice with them much and I like to shoot my carry guns every trip to the range. I can go through several hundered rounds in my BHP's, Witness or XD9 with no issues, but due to some arthritis I seem to have problems when shooting the little guns after a few dozen rounds.

For "others" I like the EAA Witness (CZ 75 clone made by Tanfoglio in Italy) polymer frame 9's. Probably the biggest bargain in handguns available (friend bought one new for $325 at the Houston gun show 2 weeks ago). I find the triggers to be generally a little better than the CZ's in factory condition, particularly the single action mode. The newer models also have a rail molded in if you like that sort of thing. I've had one about 10 years now without a single failure of any kind, and added an Elite Match model in .40 back in January which is a fabulous pistol. The CZ 75 itself is a decent enough pistol, I've got a 75B Anniversary model for my barbeque gun, but the Witness is usually $100-200 cheaper.

CZ RAMI 9mm

My CZ RAMI 9mm takes turns with My Colt Detective Special depending on My mood. Both are small enough to go everywere with Me .....WVleo
