Really its comparing apples to oranges. The Keltec is appreciably smaller than the Taurus. I carry my Keltec in my pocket aften. The Taurus is more the size of a Glock 26. A little bulky for pocket carry for me. The Taurus on the other hand will probably get you a batter trigger and sights and a little more contrallability. Personally, I love my P-11. I wouldn't turn down a PT-111 either though.

Kel-Tec P3AT 380

I see all kinds of recommendations of what to carry, but the big question is WHY and WHEN you are going to carry.

Make that determination before all others.

If you are carrying for self-defense and want to carry all the time, then I would recommend something small as your first carry.

Remember, the .22 in your pocket is worth more than the .45 at home.

Go to the gun shows and/or dealers and try the "pocket guns" and find what would be comfortable for you to carry all the time, even in your jogging shorts with no shirt. You can add to it later as funds allow.

My primary carry is a Kel-Tec P3AT .380 (239.00) with an ArmaLaser (159.00) and a spare mag (23.00). I can carry this no matter what I wear or where I go. Fits well in front or back pocket, IWB, USH, BB, and just about anything else you can think of. Weighs in @ 12 oz fully loaded w/laser.

Well within you price point with the laser and if you head out to the 7/11 on the spur of the moment you won't have to don special holsters, just drop it in your pocket and go, that is unless it is already in your pocket like mine is.

With the laser, you know you are on target quickly. "One shot, One kill".

My other carrys depending on where I am going are:
Kel-Tec P-11 9mm, ArmaLaser
S&W M-59 9mm
CZ 24 380
S&W Special .38

THINKING OF FACTORY SUPPORT

I have a friend who had to send his Taurus back THREE times before the factory got it right.

If you go to www.ktog.org and ask around or even read the thread about "P11 accuracy" you will find they are capable of amaning accuracy for a gun with a 3" barrell. KT is also the only company I know of that the warranty applies to people who bought it second hand, you do NOT have to be the original owner. In the rare instances I'm aware of that someone had a problem you can call KT and talk to a gunsmith and they will send you the parts FREE.

If any other gun maker does - even for second hand owners - please let me know.

voted "other", but considering changing it...

I bought a PT111 Pro about 3 weeks ago, and had a little bit of buyer's remorse after my first (and only) trip to the range.

There was a Kahr for $100 more sitting next to it on the shelf at Cabela's, but I already owned a Taurus, which I love, and $100 is a LOT, when the total price of the PT111 Pro was around $300.

Anyway, pros of the Mil-Pro (for me)...
- I like the single action trigger, though you still have to take up quite a bit of slack on the first shot
- price
- look
- size (though the Kahr was thinner)

Cons:
- all related to the grip: I didn't like the polymer stippling (after holding the 24/7 ribbed grip, the PT111 Pro grip just didn't feel as good), and the small gap between bottom of the frame and the mag plate pinches my pinky every time I shoot

I think the pinching of the finger was what really torked me, as everything else was great. I shot accurately with it, the kick wasn't bad at all, and I only had one fail to fire, which I credit to the ammo, not the pistol.

And, I spotaneously voted "other" thinking of the Kahr and how it felt, when I held it. But, I can't speak for the trigger, kick, accuracy, etc, which I liked about the Taurus.

If you look at Taurus' tactical brochure, they list a 24/7 Compact that is just slightly larger than the Mil-Pro, but holds more rounds and has the 24/7 grip! I haven't seen any available, but it might replace my Mil-Pro down the line.

Oh, and I'll probably still buy the KT P3AT at some point for those Texas summers, where an IWB and the Mil-Pro just won't work.

I have a Taurus PT145SS & a Kel Tec P11. The P11 is much easier to conceal than the Taurus & mine has been very reliable. The 145 is for when I have plenty of room to hide a bigger gun.

From what I've seen, the KTs are good, but they don't have that great a finishing job on the metal, and I just don't like them as much.

Taurus pistols just seem to be finished like more expensive guns, with good worksmanship. I've got a PT111 pro, too. I like it; it's my daily CCW (IWB). The 'new' pt111 pros are actually nicer than the one I've got, with a better trigger and 2-dot heine sights. Mine's got 3-dot and the older, longer trigger that the original millenniums had; new ones appear to have a pretty acceptable 2-stage trigger (for a pistol) with light take-up.

I've never had any problems whatsoever with mt pt111; I've run it dry, fired about 1,000 rounds through it without a hickup, and have shot it with some of the nastiest ammo you could imagine. It's a well-made gun with surprisingly good tolerances.

I've also shot bowling pins at about 40 yards with a consistency of about 4 out of 5 hitting their target with it. Which is more a boast about the gun than me, I think, as I can't do the same with a 1911.

Are those two guns the only options. I'd probally pick the Taurus cause I've had good experiences with the brand. I'd prefer for pocket pistol anyway. One of those new super light weight hammer-less revolvers. You wouldn't even have to take it out of your pocket to shoot it or even grip it properly in a emergency situation. (Once agian emergency situation). Light weight revolvers don't make good range guns though.

Kel-Tec PF9

I've owned both Melleniums and the PF9 and I like the PF9 much better. I shoots well (I only have around 500 rounds through it) and is more compact for carry conceal than the Taurus.

The PF9 is lighter too and I prefer the PF9's trigger for pocket carry, but I prefer the PM9 over both.

Bought and Learned

I bought the PF9 and put about 600 rounds through it before it broke!!!:what:

Sent it back to Kel-Tec and they fixed it and in return I sold it!!!!:neener:

I had 2 Kahrs, one PM9 (slide rail broke) and the other a K9 (hated the trigger) and I sold both of them!!!!!!:barf:

I will and can not recommend either a Kel-Tec PF9 or a Kahr.:cuss:

I have a Kahr K9 too. Bought it when they first came out.
Shoots as good today as it did all those years ago.
My PM9 has also been outstanding in every respect for a true pocket sized 9mm pistol.

IMo just kinda hard to beat that pm9 for a pocket rocket. They do seem to go bang every time to..

Taurus or Kel-Tec??

I bought a PF9 a couple of months ago after seriously considering several other options, Glock 26, Kahr, Walther strictly based on size. I wanted something that was light enough to carry in a side leg pocket, not pattern and be at least 9mm so I could use the same ammo as my Beretta. The Kel-Tec being the thinnest of all fit the bill. Then I started reading all the negative info regarding the PF9. (Guess I should have researched a little more!) So I bought several hundered 9mm rounds of all different brands and grain. After a thorough cleaning of all the "new" from the weapon I proceeded to fire every round I had bought through this little gun in rapid order. Now granted I had to stop after the clip emptied and reload, but I did this as quick as I could. The gun never so much had a hint of a problem. I took the gun down for a inspection and cleaning and other than some funny wear on the feed ramp I saw nothing out of the ordinary. I will conclude that statement with I am not a gunsmith but I do have enough experience with weapons to know what is going to break and what is not right. Understand that like most weapons the Kel-Tec has a few issue that could be improved such as the plastic mag catch will break if not pushed in when inserting a clip. But as an overall opinion I am happy with the PF9 and do not worry if the need should ever arise (I hope it never does) that this little gun will perform. If you clean and inspect your weapons on a regular basis most issues can be avoided. BTW the trigger pull is a little long but it does not take long to get use to. Just my humble opinion.

I pocket carry a PF-9, after having previously carried a P3AT, and much prefer the PF-9. It wouldn't work well as a pocket carry in tight jeans, but I wear cargo pants or docker-type pants, and there's no problem. The sights are much better than the P3AT, so it is easier to hit accurately with, and there's a world of difference in cartridge performance. Kel Tec's factory service is extrordinary as well

As for the Taurus, I have nothing but praise for the PT-145 I had, and they do have a second-strike capability the PF-9 does not, but I have not heard nice things about their factory service.

I carry enough stuff around that I require suspenders to keep my pants up, so the choice was simple...The PF-9 was the only real choice in 9mm. It has been extremely accurate and totally reliable. The only reason I'd change is if KT ever puts out a P4T5...

I'm not advocating this option per se, but just F.Y.I. on the pricing (since it was mentioned): Kahr's CW9 can be had N.I.B. for $350 all day long. Remember the CW's have no polygonal rifling, only one mag, cheaper slide finishing, pinned sights, etc (vs. the p9)- but as said, a nicer trigger than the K.T.'s and M.P.'s.

I would like to see where you can get a CW9 for $350. Lowest price I have found is more like $388 mail order + FFL fee. Howabout a link or other reference? Thx-
