I bought the Lee "U" die and it partly improved sizing the bulge out and dropping into the case gage but was still having issues, went in halves with friend to buy case pro roll sizer. I attached before and after images.
If you look at the mouth of your sizing die, you'll see its chamfered to help with brass insertion a little. You might find that ring is where the carbide sizer is last making contact when the holder hits the base of the die, then changing directions.. Its a rub mark and I'd not be worried about that as long as you're not experiencing blowouts or separations.
I would believe this is exactly the case. With pistol not the entire case goes all the way into the sizing die due to the shell plate or the shell holder. Where the die stops and rolls out is where you will See a ring around your brass. It's perfectly normal unless it's actually bulging.
Hint: Find a round that doesn’t pass the case gauge?
Check to see if a loose grain of powder didn't stick to the side of the case, causing it to not seat fully. Just rub it off and try the case gauge again.
