Well since Saigas are made in Russia, if you got enough people moaning about it to send letters, maybe a small batch would be imported? You'd have to do the same thing for ammo to a manufacturer.

Does anyone have ballistics info on this ammunition? Looks interesting- all I know is it's the caliber of that Russian suppressed rifle.

I agree, It'd be pretty cool to have a gun chambered in 9x39.

Well, if it is just me I don't see it happening. The 9x39 subsonic loads are 250gr. at 1000-1100fps., and I think you could get something hotter than that if you were not concerned about noise.

Honestly, i seriously doubt that any 'civvy' will be ever made in 9x39, at least in factory form.

There's no purpose, IMO. See, the only idea behind the whole 9x39 is the subsonic velocity; while heavy, the SP-5 ball is hardly a good hunting round... SP-6 is a very special AP loading.

I bet you can rebarrel any 7.62x39 gut to 9x39 but i bet IzhMash will not bother to add it to its production line... OTOH, the 5.6x39 (aka .22 Russian) is produced in Saiga line.

I would like to see how close to 2000 fps you could get with a 250 gr. projectile. Perhaps Alexander Arms might look into it, though they seem to have a lot of irons in the fire right now.

I'll second something chambered in the Whisper line as a more practical alternative. It just isn't profitable enough for someone to try to mass produce an importable sub-sonic rifle. Not exactly a wide market for it.

Couldn't you just reload 7.62x39 to match .300 Whisper ballistics? The cartridges are amazingly similar, if you look at them side by side, and IIRC full-power (supersonic, normal-weight bullet) .300 Whisper loads are ballistic twins of normal 7.62x39.

Good idea, so I checked on heavy bullets in .311 to see what was available at MidwayUSA. The heaviest are Woodleigh 215 grainers, but they're hella-expensive. About $0.54 each. The next heaviest are 180 grainers from Speer, Sierra, and Remington. The Remingtons come to only $0.12 each.

I'm sure you could push either one to 1000 FPS pretty easily from the 7.62x39 since a 150 grain has no trouble getting to 2000 fps, but factory data seems hard to find.

In .308 however you can find inexpensive 220 grain bullets and a 240 grain Sierra Match King. So, if you have the means, the Whisper would be a better choice just based on bullet selection.
