Here's a picture of the Mexico-USA border in San Diego County, just a short taxi cab ride from the city of Tecate.

You grandmother could make the two mile walk to the pickup houses easily.

"Wetback" is not PC."

A matter of opinion. Locally, folks refer to illegals as "mojados" and that translates as "wet ones". I've had many folks describe themselves to me as mojados.

We don't have a border here anymore although I am certain there once was one here. Now, we have Mexico on this side of the river and Mexico on the other side of the river and the only difference is that this Mexico has Food Stamps and is required to recognize human rights.

Unbelievable! I really had NO CLUE that the problem was this out of whack. :what: Great informative post. I would be interested to see more of those pictures, as well. Someone may have addressed this farther up the post, and I apologize if they have, but what action can I as an individual take, to help with this problem?

Ronnie Raygun's amnesty in '86 made sense and did not destroy the nation. This one will not as well.

Depends on "your" meaning of destroy. If it will not hurt please tell me how it
will help.?

An analysis of recent census data indicates that the presence of illegal aliens in California is costing the state's taxpayers more than $10.5 billion per year for education, medical care and incarceration.

The report, written by the Federation of American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, states that even if the tax contributions of illegal aliens are subtracted, state government outlays still amount to nearly $9 billion a year.

The $10.5 billion figure translates into a burden to native-born residents of $1,183 per household.

FAIR notes that the results of the report take into account only state of California costs and do not include the cost of illegal aliens born by the federal government.

The report breaks down the costs of the three main areas of services, education medial care and incarceration.

Based on estimates of the illegal alien population in California and documented costs of K-12 schooling, Californians spend approximately $7.7 billion annually on education for illegal-alien children and for their U.S.-born siblings, says the report. Nearly 15 percent of the K-12 public school students in California are children of illegals.

The report shows uncompensated medical outlays for health care provided to the state's illegal alien population amount to about $1.4 billion a year.

The cost of incarcerating illegal aliens in California's prisons and jails amounts to about $1.4 billion a year. That figure does not include related law enforcement and judicial expenditures or the monetary costs of the crimes that led to their incarceration, the report notes.

FAIR says the total of taxes paid into the system by illegal aliens can be estimated at about $1.6 billion per year.

States the report's executive summary: "The fiscal costs of illegal immigration do not end with these three major cost areas. The total costs of illegal immigration to the state's taxpayers would be considerably higher if other cost areas such as special English instruction, school feeding programs or welfare benefits for American workers displaced by illegal alien workers were added into the equation."

Furious Styles, certain subjects lead to a total end to rational cognition...

I just wanted to watch a little football, not come here and delete about half the posts in a thread...

We need to change the constitution to deny citizenship to people born in this country of illegal parents. And then we need to shoot anyone we catch on the wrong side of the border. The mexicans dont behave any nicer to us. I'll volunteer.

Great, wonderful. Should you shoot me first, or should I shoot you?

My grandparents are German and Itailan. And NO they did not immigrate 'legally' (as they invaded a soverign nation of indigionus peoples about 200 years ago!)

Great job stoping that 14-year old mexican girl, she was probally a terrorist. You really did your part today for AMERICA!

Guess I'm a bit of a libertarian here, but cut back the benefits and nanny-state, and open the damn borders. If you want to mop toilets for $4.50/hr, go right ahead. I don't.

wow man, thanks!

besides, forget the basci latinos, how long till a seriuosly dangerous person or group comes across.
wow.

i am not for shooting them or anything, but certainly you guys being armed is the best way to send them back, you have to point soetihng at them to make them turn around!

anyway, yeah i dont like losing money to illegals.
it is really sad and all, but 100 years ago, we had pelnty of need for more low wage workers.
but not any more.

sure , you dont want to mop toilets for $4.50.
BUT what everyone seems to fail to realize
(except me, and a few of my previous employers)
= I, and they can employ latinos for $6/ hr for Hard work.
or I can employ americans for $12/hr.
there are plenty of Amercians for most of these jobs (sure not all, but then we do have a large amount of legal immigration also)

the only reason these jobs have such low wages is the boss wants more money.

AS if wal mart couldnt up everyone's salary??
not if the CEOs want to get not 5 but ten million dollars a year.

this is true all the way down.

i could make an extra $3000 a year hiring illegals, and boy could i use it, but what i could use more is my neighbor to come up a little and maybe be able to pay me for services some day instead of sending my $$ out of the US.

and it works.
i do hauling, guys work for me for awhile , get on their feet, get a better job, get an Apt, and then they gotta pay me to haul away their old couch.

everybody wins, i just dont get to be super rich

we need to shoot anyone we catch on the wrong side of the border

Are you for real? A 14 year old girl who goes to school in L.A. and you want to shoot her?

Yea, this is the high road, all right.

"Wetback" is not PC."

heheh, ok yeha i agree, except in one case=

? how anout the time i was in El Paso, and two very old , very WET mexicans were asking me for change late at night.
they had literally just crossed the river.

i feel ok calling those two wetbacks.

the rest i refer to as "illegals" or "latinos" . around here i know more than a few "illegals" from europe, asia, and middle east, and i have less sympathy for them as they are not seeking asylum, they are the same "illegals". worse if anything, as they seem to be more prone to calling us "stupid americans".

at least the latinos are generally happy to be here and have a shot

could always tranq them and dump them back on the other side of the border. kind of like how F&G tranqs bears that get into residential neighborhoods and returns them back to their natural habitat.

Great job stoping that 14-year old mexican girl, she was probally a terrorist. You really did your part today for AMERICA!
Yes, it was good job.
No, it doesn't matter if she was a terrorist or not. We are still a soverign country the last time I checked and have the right as such to regulate those crossing our borders.
Yes, Matt did do something for America when he stopped ILLEGAL aliens from crossing our soverign borders. Remind me exactly what you have done for America?

Extremism begets extremism. Ugly stuff. But the extremism isn't being fomented here, it's being fomented in Mexico City and, alas, Washington D.C. Open borders, when you're talking about essentially importing tens of millions, maybe hundreds of millions of uneducated, semi-skilled workers is utter folly--for many reasons. As for the dismantling of the welfare state, that is fantasy: the only way the welfare state is going away is by collapse or catastrophe or both, and we all know that. Let's being realistic: there are hard measures called for at this point in addressing our border problems. We need to stop sentimentalizing the problems, something being aided and abetted, unfortunately, by our own President. No one is talking about the people raped and murdered in our country by felons who flee south of the border for sanctuary or the preponderance of gang members who are illegal aliens.

By the time my fellow citizens in the northern latitudes "get it," it will be way, way too late. At that point America will be Mexico Norte. You want to see The Problem? Take a vacation in Los Angeles and sniff around. The truth will dawn on you.

Longeyes: You are so right. By the time the northerners "get it," it'll be too late.

Once upon a time in Tito's Yugoslavia, Serbs in the Serbian province of Kosovo thought it was a great idea to let in millions of Albanians, to do the dirty jobs cheap.

Look where that got them, in the long run. Kosovo is now run by the Albanian mafia, and the Serbs have been driven out of their own land.

The American Southwest is going to be Kosovo X 100, in our lifetimes. That's the theme of my second novel, Domestic Enemies, and that's why I was invited out to see the broken border first hand. Real world research, not just keyboard commando-ing for a day.

*sigh*

Our border is a problem. It is a serious problem.

Even if you are a libertarian, and you believe that people should be able to go work in whatever country they want whenever they want, you still have the problem of National Security.

Here we are, our leaders have told us that we are in a war on terror. We invaded two countries (personally, I have no problems with that, since it was needed in both cases), have subjected ourselves to overzealous searches to get on an airplane and yet we can't do anything about the most obvious problem with our National Security.

I mean, as a photographer, I can't even take photos of many photogenic locations, because there is a bridge, a dam, or some other structure without being harassed. Yet we are unwilling to do anything about the criminals who cross our borders everyday. And yes, they are criminals, they are breaking the laws of the USA when they sneak in.

Osama Bin Laden could cross that border, and make it to the US for crying out loud. It is that open.

The scary thing is that someday we will finally understand the need for border security. The reason I say that it is scary is because we will, as a country, understand that need after we have been attacked, and lose thousands more.

After 9-11, INS cracked down on student visas and expired visas, which is how the 9-11 terrorists got into the country, yet we have done nothing to prevent the same type of terrorists to cross into our country unchecked. Why would they even bother with trying to get a Visa now? Just go down to the border.

The war on terror will never be winnable until our leaders and the public both recognize the threat we are facing with our porous borders, and are willing to do something about it.

I.G.B.

Controlled, legal immigration, if you want an acceptable living standard and
retain some of the remaining freedom we now have, because if we don't act
now look for government employees checking your "papers" to move from state to state. :(
