Let's be real: Bush is unwilling to deal with the cultural issues of the mass Mexican migration honestly and openly. We are going to assimilate a hundred million poor and uneducated Mexicans in 20 years? How? I am fully aware that there are other schools preaching Reconquista values, yet I DO NOT HEAR BUSH CONDEMNING THEM, just pussyfooting around the real issues that the average American is all too aware of. Why is his rating going down? Because of this, precisely: people sense that he is unable to be honest about what is happening and what it will mean, and they are justifiably angry. Assimilation is not just a word to be pulled out of the quiver as your last arrow. Bush needs to talk about how we would in fact absorb anything close to the number of Mexicans the Senate bill proposes to admit--who would pay? how would we handle the process lawfully? What most of us understand is that the Government--and that means Bush and others like Bush--either can't or won't confront the true realities of the situation.
